LOS ANGELES - George Takei, who as helmsman Sulu steered the Starship Enterprise through three television seasons and six movies, has come out as a homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.

It's been common knowledge "SULU" is gay for decades.. this isn't news. He must have decided to "come out" because he was the only one left who didn't know.
Next thing you know Kevin McClatchy will "come out"..
I've come to the conclusion by the time folks "come out", everyone already knows.

Somebody should tell actors not to do this.
I liked the Sulu character.
And now I like him less.
Shut up and act.
In the next Star Trek movie, Sulu needs to be "the guy in the red shirt".
Well, at least thank God it wasn't Kirk "coming out".
That would knock the planets off their axis or something.
