The bots can't get over that they were proven so wrong on this one that they act like she is still the nominee? Remind you of anybody? It sort of reminds me of the Kerry/Edwards people who refuse to take the stickers off the car.
That's correct. Isn't it funny that Schumer and Reid et al were downright giddy when Miers was picked, and now their crying. Hmmm, doesn't take a rocket scientist.
There is no evidence whatsoever in their writings they stand on Catholic or Christian principles.
God forbid you point that out to the bots who think she was the Virgin Mary reincarnated as a SC nominee.
I think this President is a very smart, tough-minded individual who continues to hone his political skills.
He clearly miscalculated with his selection of Ms Miers and now knows it. A small man might become bitter, angry and retaliate against those who opppossed him. Bush is above that. He knows Conservatives have done a lot for him and will continue "walk through fire" for him in the upcoming elections in 2006. They will watch his back throughout the CIA leak crisis and they will follow him to hell and back on the War on Terrorism.
Conservatives do not always agree with him but he is our man. He has done many courageous things, including sheparding through tort reform when everyone said that is impossible, he took the fight to the Senate Democrats in the last elections and got back the majority, he never waivers on the WOT, he removed the murderous Saddam, he took up the impossible challenge of Social Security Reform, he has appointed more staunch conservatives to the bench than anyone ever dreamed possible (People like Janice Rogers Brown sit on the Appeals Court of Washington D.C. because of him), and he is deep down a decent, kind, loving good man. Yep, he is the best thing there is in Washington. He is our man.
There is no evidence whatsoever in Meirs' writings that she stands on Catholic or Christian principles either. What is your point?
Exactly. And don't forget the bloated whale, aka the Swimmer, was also sad. I have never seen so many sad DemoRats in my life. How come their saddness makes me so happy. There is something almost sinful about the amount of glee that I am experiencing right now.

What no one is talking about is the Message we are sending to our people. REPRESENT YOUR BASE or YOU ARE GONE. Period end of story. Charlie Brown has left the field and is returning a different man, carrying a pair of brass knuckles and a broken bottle. The time we submit is over, the time we let the people we put in power run over us is through.YOU DO IT OUR WAY or SCREW YOU. THAT is the message that is far more important. We are pissed and we are not going to accept political crumbs anymore.

Again, the problem wasn't that conservatives didn't like Miers, it's that conservatives didn't know know enough about her to like or dislike her. Despite loud calls for insight and explaination, no useful information was forthcoming - forcing the voiced concerns ever louder.
As for deferring to the President's choice, she withdrew before the oft-demanded up-or-down vote - which is exactly where "defer" meets "put up or shut up".

I was busy on another thread and missed these posts. I will gladly answer your question.
Yes, I believe Bush knew exactly what he was doing when he made the Miers appointment.
Here is why.....
Looking back over the Bush history in office there have been numerous times that the party, the nation and the world have been surprised and and misunderstood the intent and purpose, or the plan behind the act.
I truly believe that this happened again, but because of his lame duck status, Senators from our party have been distancing themselves from Bush. It is because of the war, gas prices, the budget or past animosities.
They balked and did not do what they usually do with a nominee, and pundits led by two past enemies of Bush, started the ball rolling. (Frum, and Krystol and a few others) Miers came as a surprise to even me, in spite of the fact her name was floated as being on the A list.
I believe that Bush found the only woman he could trust for that position, and had plans, if confirmed, that she would act in a supporting role, to add meat to the requirements of a five judge consensus to go back and change what is now called settled law and reverse the tinkering that the Warren court and others did to case law, which led to Roe, and other crazy decisions.
It does not take a prima donna expert jurist to do that. It takes a dedicated and loyal servant of the constitution and one who is interested in correcting past wrongs that brought us Roe.
Do you think for a minute that a top drawer judge with a pedigree would act as a team member like Thomas does today? Thomas had no pedigree or track record of note either, but works with Scalia.
This is what it takes to form a court that someday will be called the Roberts court. It takes team work and cooperation, and you cannot get that with nine pedigrees! It will never happen.
That is my case, but now it is moot. He will not be able to do it now, and it's a damn shame. We could have had a notable and powerful court to do exactly what we needed done.
There will be one more pick after this, and I hope he can cobble something together, but if you people keep tying his hands, and you will...he cannot do a damn thing but pick prima donna pedigreed A'holes for the court, and he has never made a bad decision on important issues before.
Yet you all just blew that all off and attacked.
So now, you reap what you sowed. History should reflect what I have written today, when it is time to do so.
