Whether you like this woman or not, she has taken an incredible amount of abuse.

Scalia just said that he would not let himself be nominated today because of the personal abuse a nominee gets.

Not only has she taken an incredible amount of abuse--the bigger issue is that the president is badly wounded by this, and it will take it's toll on him and his administration.
There have been times during the Bush presidency that have made me cringe and shake my head in wonder. In some ways, he has been his biggest enemy. Nominating Ms Miers is just the latest example.

Yes, this has got to be incredibly embarassing to all involved. I feel sorry for her.

That's a load of dung. She's been picked for a lifetime appointment to the most important court in the land. Her writings point to something other than conservatism, she can't talk constitutional law and she screwed up her first questionnaire so bad that it had to be done over. She was also late with the do over, but now that she has pulled her nomination I can see why. Follow conservatism first, and individuals second. Philosophy over personality for those of you who don't know or read history.

I won the bet with the hubby. I felt that if Harriett was the person President Bush thought she was, that she would not let the President and his family go through the process that would hurt his Presidency or divide the Country.
God Bless Harriett Miers. IMHO, she is everything President Bush, in his heart, felt she was as a person and an American!

All of it hard earned. Go review my vanities... you'll see I defended her for some time, until I was overwhelmed by the stench.

"Whether you like this woman or not, she has taken an incredible amount of abuse."You have a gift for understatement. I've never been ashamed of being a conservative before this venomfest began. I am now.

"Whether you like this woman or not, she has taken an incredible amount of abuse." I did not hear any personal abuse heaped upon her. I heard the President's base insist that he nominate someone who was clearly in the mold he promised. By public record (of which there wasn't one), Harriet Miers did not meet the President's own test.
We were rightfully worried about another Souter.
That didn't amount to personal or inaccurate attacks to my knowledge.

Whether you like this woman or not, she has taken an incredible amount of abuse. It was nothing personal ... and, she herself has not been abused. Her writings, her speech, her invovlement in IOLTA, and her unsuitability to become a justice of the SCOTUS have been properly scorned. Her own mediocrity prevented her seeing just how unsuitable she would have been.
Personally, I have no animus toward her ... and wish her all the best in her future endeavors. I am just relieved and very, very happy that she will not be sitting on the SCOTUS for the rest of her life [and mine].

It was not abuse to discuss her record - and I have not heard one person attack her personally. (Though perhaps it happened from a few.)
Meyers was set up and out of her depth. I have sympathy for that treatment, but in no way was she qualified to serve at the proposed level. President Bush was not careful in his nomination, and it caused problems.
