This is the taxi driver whose wife is hospitalized? How is his wife's condition?
Here is what is happening in Louisiana......
Most people are taking advantage of the blue-tarp program. It does take a few weeks, maybe a month, but they do come eventually and secure a tarp to all damaged areas of your roof. We have had .06 inches of rain in SE Louisiana since hurricane Katrina so many people didn't mind the wait.
The roofing industry is "through the roof" as you can imagine here in Louisiana. From what I'm hearing,....there's a bid from contractors to do a new roof and then there's another bid from contractors to do a new roof NOW - there's a premium to get your new roof today and it's kind of done with a nod and a wink. This "now" price is always way above the insurance adjuster's price.
I don't know the extent of roof damage in your area, I assume it is severe. If it is severe, residents of Florida will run into the same type of price-gouging from roofers. I suggest, and this is only my opinion, folks in Florida with extreme roof damage apply for the blue tarp program and have it fixed temporarily and then wait for an Uncle or Brother or Nephew or kind neighbor to come along to put their roof on for a reasonable price. Roofing is very hard work, but it's not rocket science.
Again, just my opinion.......
Sorry!
hi, if you get any more news from boca please post or email me, i have an apt in east boca but am out of town and trying to find out anything i can.
Do you know how big their tarps are?
The ones the other person was telling me about are 16x20 feet and she'll probably need a larger one if it's to be done with one covering.
Her house is probably about 900 square feet.
Wife of taxi driver is better. She was in the taxi with him on their way home when he stopped and checked on Auntie.
That was very nice..We all need more neighbors like you
they do make bigger tarps than 16 x 20 but your better off to double them up..I've seen them leak before
Most of the contractors for house repairs that my aunt has dealt with have been crooks. Her unhooked up water heater has been in her living room for 6-7 years and she has to pour water in the water closet of the toilet to get it to flush.
Her area is mostly Cuban now. Her Taxi driver is Pakistani.
It isn't going to be easy to get this permanently repaired; I'm just looking to do something for temporarily and immediate reduction of further damage to insure she can stay there safely for a while.
So maybe 4 tarps with some overlapping?
And a staple gun??? and staples?
I have a 10' x 13' I got from Walmart, and it was one of the small ones. Odds are no tarp will be big enough to cover a whole house. If you need more than one, lay them like shingles. Start at the gutterline, lap the next one up over the top edge of the first, and the top one has to lap over both sides of the ridge.
I know it sounds insulting, but I even forget sometimes that water runs downhill. Keeping that firmly in mind makes a lot of difference in the outcome of many projects.
Hey, it was worth a shot... Thanks for trying.
I've got the number for future reference.
Will do.
I, too, am very grateful for all those who prayed and to our dear Lord for answering our prayers.
I don't care about the roof. I am so glad my aunt is uninjured and has half a house she can retreat to.
Everybody has been wonderful trying to help any way they can.
I just sent you a message to your mailbox
That much I do know, about which end to overlap...
Don't know if the person who actually, eventually goes up and does it will know....
However, I don't know if she still has struts and ridge or whatever on that side of the roof.
My guess is that some is still there or the whole roof would be gone.
overlap the first one with a second..you can get a staple gun at Home Depot as well
Thanks, I will. But I'm used to it considering I was only without power for about 3 hours total last year.
The cats didn't even bother to come inside for this one.
Praise the Lord.
