I seriously distrust anyone who doesn't have the guts to put their name behind their statement. If you are so worried about what other people will think if they find out that you have a certain position, then you shouldn't say it. I hate anonymous sources. If you've got a position, you should stand behind it. I'm really sick of these people that claim to reporters that they know that somebody said something to somebody about Harriet Miers and you shouldn't support her. It's irritating.

Thanks for your post DrDeb.

I never pay any attention to the polls, (maybe I'm related to the President) but I always look for your analysis of them.

"Would you send a copy of this to Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, RUSH, and a few others?"

The biggest rub for me is that these so-called "Constitutional Scholars" can spend day after day saying 'I don't see her qualifications...the White House didn't give me any information' over and over, but have yet to spend one minute reviewing her qualifications.

What do they expect, to be on the President's speed dial every time he makes a decision that he's entitled to do? The pundits and presstitutes sound angry that they were not consulted first....sheesh!

I guess they've been spending their time listening/reading to the Has-Been Media rather than doing their homework since FReepers and bloggers have to do it for them (Beldar blog is but one example).

What are the serious arguments of those against Harriet Miers? Certainly not "crony-ism" to appoint one of the top 50 lawyers, no experience (I guess they haven't bothered to look), others are "more qualified" (problem remains with more confirmations if you have to re-fill a spot it took 2 years to pass confirmation), "stealth" nominee (just because the pundits don't know about her record, that doesn't make it invisible), avoiding a fight (why pick a fight when the other side already has a white flag ready to go). Do you want to have a litmus test for each nominee who's supposed to represent an independent judiciary? Many arguments are just because their pet activist didn't make the cut.

Most of the rest I have read about don't have anything to do with Miers, but rather the pundits view of how President Bush has wronged them in someway - and they are beginning to sound more and more like the folks from Camp Cindy than a conservative I would respect.

The pundits need daily reminding of the President's track record on appointments (the nominees that have already been confirmed are NEEDED in their posts, so I would scratch those off the list right away too, even if they wanted the nomination).

I think Miers will prove herself to be a spectacular choice when all the dust settles. Would you want to play poker with this guy?

Before anyone jumps ship over to the DUmocrats, read this:

Merry MOOSEMUSS everyone!

I am glad to see that Fred Barnes has at least given the President the benefit of doubt and has not jumped on the BBB(Bash Bush Bandwagon).

***I don't mean to be a thorn in your side but W does have the power of a veto - which he has NEVER used, much to my chagrin.***

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has ruled that a line-item veto is unconstitutional, thereby making it impossible for Dubya to veto the bill without losing the ground he had gained. If the RINOS had done their work, the pork would not have been in the bill.

When the conservative "intelligentsia" ignore this point alone, it proves to me that they are petty people, not willing to consider WHAT is BEST for the FUTURE of our country's judicial path.

It took how many years to get Janice Rogers Brown to the DC Circuit! And John Roberts elevation is already leaving one gap there!

The pundits are having a temper tantrum because Harriet Miers is too "ordinary" for them.

A strong character, proven successful in her 35 year career, with "Ordinary" American values will be a great asset to our SC.

He said, ‘Well, if you have any encouragement for me please give it. I need it. Be free to say whatever is on your mind.’ Yes, Friend Abraham, thee needs not think thee stands alone. We all are praying for thee. All our hearts, the hearts of all people, are behind thee, and thee cannot fail! The Lord has appointed thee, the Lord will sustain thee, and the people love thee. Take comfort, friend Abraham, God is with thee!"

These words brought me to tears, STARWISE. God bless you for posting this incredible story!

Yes, Friend George, thee needs not think thee stands alone. We all are praying for thee. All our hearts, the hearts of all people, are behind thee, and thee cannot fail! The Lord has appointed thee, the Lord will sustain thee, and the people love thee. Take comfort, Friend George, God is with thee!"

He also stressed that her hands-on, real life experience in the White House with the global war on terror will prove extremely important, in light of attempts by the judiciary to micro-manage the Guantanamo Bay detention of captured terrorists. He conceded that there may be a few cases in which she might recuse herself in the near future, but stated that this was a “generational battle” and in the long run, her perspective on the Court will be vital to the GWOT.

I was already persuaded going into the call that, pending the data we will get in her testimony in the Judiciary Committee hearings, there is every reason to expect that the President has been faithful to his campaign pledge to appoint Justices in the mould of Scalia and Thomas. And I thought that the emphasis on the strong character of Harriet Miers was appropriate, since what I want most of all is a an originalist Justice who will have immunity from the Greenhouse Effect.

When I asked how the nominee was bearing up under the onslaught of criticism from my side of the fence, Ken stated that as of Friday, when last he saw her, she was just fine. She doesn’t overly concern herself with criticism or hostility. That struck me as consistent with the description of her strong character we heard earlier.

I continue to think the signs are good, and that the confirmation hearings will be interesting

Thomas Lifson 10 12 05

WHOA! This is a HUGE factor that I hadn't even considered! The SC with a majority of libs/moderates is in danger of undermining the WOT and the effectiveness of our military. This may be the most important thing that Miers brings to the bench.

God is TRULY directing this storm! Keep praying!

THANKS for those great links, Deb!

Hi, Ohio!

I was thinking

Will the DOSE continue under a dirrerent name after January of 2009?

I sure like this thread and if all goes well in 2008 I hope you'll be calling this thread "A Day in the life of President Rice or Guliani (spelling?) or Frist or Allen or another Republican President.

But until then I'll keep enjoying "A Day in the Life of President Bush!" :o)

I have a feeling that we will continue getting together with our FRiends here, Pippin.

What we have on the Dose is too good to lose, even after this incredible President and First Lady are finally able to rest.....

I truly hope so Ohio certainly FR and in particular the dose has been lifeline to me the last few months.

I am certain that the group of us that get together on the dose each day will want a thread that we can meet up on after the President has gone back to Texas. Time will tell what that will be and in what format.

Did you hear how livid Sen. Grassley was because the White House put out notice that President Bush would veto a Defense appropriation bill if it contained Grassley's socialized medicine plan for Katrina victims?

Got to remember today to call a judiciary member and support fair hearings for Miers. No one is infallible. So there may be a skeleton no one has found yet

But I assume Miers will be a decent judge who won't legislate from the bench. And she is smart enough to let Scolia and Thomas and Roberts give her a reading list and master a raft of case law before she is seated. And then they will help her hone her knowledge during discussions with her.

Cheers!
