Does anyone know the quote from Abraham Lincoln, where he talks about how you can't be President without spending sometime on your knees in prayer? If anyone knows it, or has it by any chance, please please post it.

In a democratic republic the legislature is the place where the competing sides of an issue hash out their differences and come to compromises.

We may not like it, but nothing moves very far in Washington without give and take.

And at the time this bill passed, the Democrats had control of the Senate.

Recruiting top notch people to run is a problem always.

President Bush and Karl Rove have done a great job of convincing a number of wonderful people to run for office.

Sometimes I prefer someone else, like I am supporting Katherine Harris now for Senate in Florida, and she was not their favored choice.

We are now looking toward a 2008 Presidential election where we don't have an obvious choice, and that is making us nervous.

God bless your winner with wisdom and stamina.

Another possibility of No Child Left Behind is that it leaves the door open ... however slightly ... for vouchers if we ever get enough Senators with the courage to push for them. I don't think it would be as much of a problem getting vouchers through the House ... in fact, I'm not sure that such a bill hasn't already passed once in the House.

I've wondered all along if the President didn't have hopes of bringing vouchers back into the picture after several years of assessments and testing but then the Senate got all squishy and began to follow the RINOS.

I don't get it...

I have been on a thread...where Frum has brought up a petition for people to sign to get a withdrawal of Miers' name...

Anyway...the anti-Miers types on that thread keep talking about how those personal messages on the notes are TOO personal...

Anyone knows when you send a pre-printed card, you put a personal message in them...but some are saying that her handwriting is to flamboyant...LOL

I don't mean to be a thorn in your side but W does have the power of a veto - which he has NEVER used, much to my chagrin.

Hey, I'm a W supporter through and through - I even travelled to NYC to nominate him for re-election - but I can't keep my blinders on forever. IF he is losing folks like me - and he isn't at this point though I have to question - then he's in trouble.

I'm just worried that's all and it didn't have to be like this. He could have done wonders in turning anyone had doubts - conservatives that is - with a better nominee. Now, there's blood in the water. Politically, this nominee is a disaster, in the short run anyway. May prove to be invaluable in the long run...that's why I say, keep the faith.

One other thing...during the last campaign, I was asked to right a letter in support of W. The subject? No Child Left Behind. I was tepid to be the least but then I realized that the letter was to be written in response to Dean's op-ed wherein he complained about lack of funding!! LOL! I had no trouble refuting that one!

It's too personal for someone she knows personally? What an odd argument. And as for Frum, I think he acts like he knows more than he really does. After all, he was hired as an economic speechwriter to the president. It's not a very important job but somehow he claims to know practically everything that ever went on in the White House.

What a shame - is this what it's come to?

I just figure:

1) Our President knows darn well how important it is to get a strict constructionist on the bench,

2) Our President knows these Senators (theirs and ours)...and...

3) You go into battle with the Army you have, not the Army you wish you had.

Send in someone he really knows, and has confidence that she won't do him or us wrong.

I guess I don't get it either, Txsleuth.

I heard someone today say...that Bush appointed Rummy, Condi, hired Cheney, Rove, nominated and RE-nominated, Luttig, Brown, Owens, Pryor, John Bolton, Roberts,...etc..

And, he appointed every dem's favorite, Colin Powell...has had Clinton be on two major fundraising tours..with his father....

BUT, all of a sudden in all of these conservative pundit's eyes....he doesn't know "HOW IMPORTANT" his job is and how important the Supreme Court is. DUH????

Wow! YOU are good! Very impressive job!!!!! (still stunned with all the time, effort, and details you provided - remarkable job - and a fun read, too!)

P.S. Would you send a copy of this to Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, RUSH, and a few others?

Excellent!

Don't forget the President's desire and ability to get results, Wphile. I don't know if there IS a better nominee who could get past the RINOS in the Senate.

You can be sure that all the angles were analyzed and that much time and prayer was spent on this. If there's anything we know, it's that we can trust this man. The courts are one of his highest priorities and his track record is perfect so far.

He's got to be very sure that she's an originalist and a conservative to have nominated her, and that's what matters.

The only way he could 'lose' us is to become a different man and a lesser leader than he is now...........and that's not going to happen.

I'm actually looking forward to the hearings. I hope she shuts some people's mouths just like Roberts did.

That's also why EVERY day W inspires me to be more than I thought I could be and take more than I thought possible. He gives me perspective JUST by watching him handle it in his own life/career.

A real man.
