"American Girl" Supports Planned Parenthood!?!

Posted on 10/11/2005 10:09:57 AM PDT by ChinaGotTheGoodsOnClinton

My wife is giving me information soon, which I'll post when I get it indicating that the publisher of books for young girls and the maker of several lines of expensive dolls and accessories is raising funds for Planned Parenthood.

I wonder if they will come out with a line of books about "Heather" who can't grow up in the 70's because she was killed in the womb.

I think my letter pretty much speaks for itself:

"Dear American Girl:

My daughter has loved and enjoyed her Kit doll for several years; so much so that she recently worked to earn the money to purchase an American Girl Today doll to "keep Kit company." Christmas gifts for her have included a doll bed, clothing, accessories, and Coconut the dog. She has a small book collection and treats these toys with such love and respect, I'm sure she'll be able to pass them along to her daughter.

I now have the sad chore of telling Taryn that the company which makes her beloved dolls is supporting an organization that condones the murder of preborn babies, including baby girls. While the "I CAN" program insists they act in the best interests of women and girls, I find the practice of abortion to be barbaric and a crime against women and the preborn. My daughter, now twelve, understands that murder is wrong, especially when it concerns little children that can't speak for themeslves.

I encourage you to drop your association with this dubious organization and make your decision to do so very public. There are thousands of mothers like myself (your long-time customers) who feel the same way, and I'm sure they can find a gentle way to tell their daughters, "no, honey, Samantha won't be under the tree this year and this is why..."

Sincerely,

I have written American Girl Doll Co. They claim they are not involved in any campaigns to support anyone, including Planned Parenthood.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the American Doll company might not have had any idea that Girls, Inc. supports abortion rights? They might have been approached by someone known to the American Girl company and got sold on the 'strong and competent girls', line, and decided to help support Girls, Inc. for that reason. Folks shouldn't claim publicly that the company was doing anything else without PROOF! Otherwise, you're just committing calumny against the company and the people who run it.

When I think of the original original, I think of the suffragists....not Steinham and all.

Though to be fair, the feminists of the 1960's did do some things I appreciate and benefit from, but they simply lost sight of the purity of the message and let their own self-importance, anger and political agendas take over.

At a local fair in my town a few weeks ago, I stopped by the NOW table. In feigned innocence I asked, "Is this group for all women?"

"Yes of course" she beamed at me.

"Well...I am pro-life, are you?"

"Well no..."

"I am for the War on terror and our involment in Iraq..are you?"

"Well, no..."

"I do not support the legalization of gay marriage, do you?"

"Well, yes..."

"So, you really don't have much to offer a conservative woman.."

"I guess not..."

"So, NOW is not a woman's group, it is a liberal woman's group...why isn't that anywhere in your literature?"

"Ummmm...."

I know non-profits...the reality is, if I have earmarked money for columns A, B and C....even if I have not specifcally funded D, E and F, if the first three have been funded by someone else, my money frees them up to spend more on the others...it is a giant paper shell game and it is intellectually dishonest for them to pretend otherwise...

Please tell American Girl (owned by Mattel) you are disappointed that they are now aligning themselves with Girls Inc., a pro-abortion, pro-lesbian advocacy group.

Dear President Brothers:

I have been made aware of your cash donation and continuing proceeds through the "I Can" bracelet to Girls Inc.

I feel American Girl and Mattel has made a tragic mistake in partnering with Girls Incorporated, a pro-abortion, pro-lesbian advocacy group.

After viewing the Girls Inc. website, I am convinced your financial support for them will cause a lot of American Girl fans and consumers to abandon their longtime loyalty and faithfulness to your company.

I implore you to reconsider your partnership with Girls Inc. and let me know of your decision. Your response to my concerns will greatly affect how I choose to do business with American Girl and Mattel in the future.

Exactly. I've worked for several children's not-for-profits and the things that go on behind the scenes with large "ear-marked" donations and toys, etc. is sickening. I am sick to my stomach recalling those images.

"Mama, Don't Let Your Daughters Grow Up to be Liberals."

I think I'm going to write a book.

Thanks for the ping. My wife spends a FORTUNE buying these for our nieces. Now I have a good reason to get her to stop.

"earmarked" means nothing

an outfit will only shift their other "non-earmarked" donations in such a way as to end up promoting whatever cause they wish. Period.

The founder of the Company is a woman named Pleasant Rowland (IIRC) of a town near Madison, WI.

She sold The Pleasant Company (American Girl) to Mattel a few years ago.

Please post your documentation...a newslink, press release, etc. Just because somebody sez its so, doesn't mean its so.

The American Girl books are really a positve series for elementary aged girls. Each book, and its corresponding doll, covers a different period in history (from Colonial time on). My daughter is 20, and she was a fan of the series. She loved Molly.

Please don't disparage the series on innuendo.

All corporations have legal eagles who THOUROUGHLY do background checks on any person or company they have dealings with. To not do so is corporate suicide. They knew.
