WASHINGTON -- When in 1962 Edward Moore Kennedy ran for his brother's seat in the Senate, his opponent famously said that if Kennedy's name had been Edward Moore, his candidacy would have been a joke. If Harriet Miers were not a crony of the president of the United States, her nomination to the Supreme Court would be a joke, as it would have occurred to no one else to nominate her.

OK then. Priscilla Owen. Conservatives wanted her. She went to Baylor. This is not about elitism.
As she IS a crony of the presidnt, what Krauthammer thinks is besides the point. He doesn't get about much and probably don't know that Texas has about as many people as NYC and NJ together.
I've never met a bright Liberal in my lifetime.
Lots of this has to do with sex and where she went to school.
Right on!
Principle before Party Loyalty!
This is the George W. Bush wing of the Republican Party . . . it is the CONSERVATIVE Wing of the Republican Party!

It isn't. The rage is rooted in envy.
I just cliked on your name and it says you are banned or suspended. Weird.
Ditto
US: "She is a crony!"
Bush: "She is not a crony!"
US: "She does not have a conservative record!"
Bush: "Trust me. She is a solid conservative."
US: "How do you know?"
Bush: "Because she is a long-time loyal crony!"
Not quite sure what all this means. John Marshall's formal college education amounted to a few weeks at William and Mary. He ws never a judge before 1801 and he turned out pretty well.
Yeah...
The Bork fight certainly did wonders in setting into people's mind what the proper role of the judiciary in our system of government is.

Losing a "noble" fight is NOT better than winning an easy battle.
Bush: Because she thinks like I do.
I've read The Tempting of America and Sloaching Towards Gommorah. Both books are on my shelf at home. I refer to "Tempting" all the time. It's like a second Con Law textbook for me.
I disagree vehemently with Bork's support for some form of censorship that he espouses in "Gommorah" to counter the ugliness in our culture.
However, I do not recall his denigation of the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms that you have referred to on several occassions. Even great minds are wrong sometimes, so I'm sure you are accurately characterizing Bork's views on the 2nd Amendment. Nevertheless, would you do me the favor of pointing me towards the particular writing to which you refer when making this assertion?
Many thanks.
ENVY?
You must be stuck on stupid.
Do you think each of the individuals who are criticizing Bush thought that he should have picked them for the Supreme Court?
Please. It has nothing to do with envy. I want to see the MOST QUALIFIED conservative, originalist nominated.
It is about mistrust. No free thinking person wants to be told "Trust me. Take my word for it."
Sure it does. Harvard Law School for example was an "all boys club" back when Miers was going through college, she couldn't apply then even if she wanted to.
The critics argument, and yours, is framed around "she's not the best and brightest in the world" (your words, not mine), mine isn't. Live with it.
