It's not in the House bill, it may or may not survive the conference, but even if it doesn't -- what message does this send to the terrorists, that our own US Senate can be worn down by the MSM to put the terrorists ahead of the lives of the American people.

Read the actual text, it's scary.

You are so right. Bush just twiddles his thumbs and should have countered this torture nonsense from the be.ginning.

He allows the MSM to create a narrative. Now they are going after rendition. Soon the only a method available to us to fight terrorists will be the courts of the US and Europe.

This has already been a demonstrated failure

Can you imagine if this had applied to the thousands of prisoners from WWII that were held in camps in the USA. Each claiming abuse, perceived or otherwise, would have access to our legal system and the right to representation in a court of law.

Get out of jail free card for terrorists?

Negroponte had accepted yesterday a Sept. 22 invitation from Democrats to brief all senators privately on intelligence matters.

What the heck are the Dems trying to pull with this stunt

And that "victory" of McCain's

It was an 11th hour stunt that he and Warner pulled by attaching 101 Amendments to the spending bill with no debates or letting Senator Stevens know ahead of time their plans

They knew their Bill couldn't pass on it's own .. so they slipped it into the spending bill

Does anyone know who voted for and against?

I didn't see the vote (family stuff)

But earlier before the vote ... you should have heard Sen Steven when they slipped this amendment into the Bill

He was HOT mad and laid into Warner big time

Thank God we didn't have this bunch in power during WWII.

This whole Iraq thing and the WOT in general would be easier and wrap up a lot quicker if the people who are supposed to be working for the AMERICAN people would do exactly that instead of trying to appease some worldwide terrorist-coddling cabal.

I would love to start a recall of EVERY Senator who voted for it.

There are some huge disappointments among those voting for this abomination, including Jim Talent and George Allen. Kit Bond, I believe, was a no vote. I think I just heard that the President has indicated he will veto it if this provision is not taken out. I hope I heard that correctly.

Who would ever want to be president in this country

John McCain, Joe Biden and Hillary! Clinton. Good grief.

I hope Bush vetoes the entire bill...

He won't veto the bill if only because there is probably a few billion dollars of pork tacked onto it, like $2.5 million for a tooth-fairy museum in South Dakota and $11.7 million grant to the University of W. Virginia to study nose snot.

I hope Bush vetoes the entire bill and I would love to start a recall of EVERY Senator who voted for it.

And this is the same group of gutless wonders that some think President Bush could have counted on in a fight to get a 'proven conservative' SC nominee approved? Yeah, right.

Remember, if the FBI had been able to look at Moussaui's computer, they may have discovered and foiled the 9-11 attack.

If the president did nothing more than to state this directly to the nation then all this 'concern' about interrogations would be over.

In terms of ludicrous ideas, this is right up there LBJ making tactical decisions in Vietnam. This is certainly not a quagmire like Vietnam, but politicians and media are doing their best to make it one.

Does this mean that Jack Bauer won't be cutting off any heads in Season 5 of 24?....Not happy at all.

Bush looks rather smart picking Meirs as his supreme court nominee. Who would want this Senate fighting with them?
