I have heard almost NO one give any support to Miers. Almost all conservatives hate her, and of course all liberals do, simply because she's a Bush pick. The woman has no public support.
Now, bear in mind, I'm not saying how I feel about her, just making an observation.
Not Harry Reid. He recommended her.
Don't be fooled, it's just that the "Donner party" is one helluva lot noisier right now.
Senator Allen was on Tony Snow's radio program this morning. Allen said all his calls received were negatives on Miers. He said he hadn't decided but his callers are opposed to her.
There is plenty of support here on FR...where have you been?
Yeah, I've noticed. It's only the people who have known her well for a long time who support her. ;-)
"The woman has no public support."
Not true. I saw a list of sentors who have already come out in favor of her. (Seems like maybe 18 so far or something like that). And of course... that included Harry Reid.
What?
Hate her?
Again I say what?
I think she is great.
You have confused blustering to the peanut gallery with actual opposition. Rush and company, as well as many liberals, will end up voting for her. She may do even better than Roberts.
Plenty of conservatives support the President's choice and have spoken up for her. I certainly do so have Pro-life organizations. If you have been reading many of these threads here you would know better than to make such a statement.

A number of conservatives are coming out in support of the Miers nomination:

There are others --- came up with these after a quick search.
What about the Bush-bots?
I am a member of the public and I support her.
Jay Sekulow spoke highly of her yesterday. He knows her well and believes she'll do a fine job. I value his judgement. I was worried at first, but Bush has always picked conservative judges and he knows her best. I don't believe he's turned his back on us now.
"The woman has no public support."
I'm public. I support her.
She has risen to the top of her field through hard work and intelligence, and she has the confidence of a President who has been unwavering in naming judges who fit his campaign promises.
Frandkly, I think it's time for an accomplished legal mind from the heartland -- someone who understands how most of America really lives -- to sit on the Court.
I don't care if her hair and her name are old-fashioned or if shallow people get upset over her eyeliner. I'm much more interested in her brain and in her intellectual integrity than in her looks.
I'm ready for commmon sense on the Court, and I think Harriet Miers may very well provide it.
