"President Bush has again ignored highly qualified Latino judges, attorneys and law professors who could serve the nation ably on the United States Supreme Court," said Ann Marie Tallman, executive director of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, after Miers' nomination was announced Monday.

[. . .]

"The failure of this administration to nominate a Hispanic judge to the Supreme Court is a slap in the face to all those highly qualified Hispanic judges that dutifully serve on our federal courts across the nation," said Raul Yzaguirre, former president of the National Council of La Raza. "Our community continues to contribute to the greatness of this nation and yet, we are ignored for a vital role on our third branch of governance."

How does one get into farming Left-Handed Paraplegic worms? Are they indigenous to Iowa? Can they be farmed elsewhere?

How does one determine whether the worms are gay or straight?

Things I'd like to hear at a press conference:

Ann Marie Tallman: "President Bush has again ignored highly qualified Latino judges, attorneys and law professors who could serve the nation ably on the United States Supreme Court."

President: That is correct.

NEXT!

Raul Yzaguirre: "The failure of this administration to nominate a Hispanic judge to the Supreme Court is a slap in the face to all those highly qualified Hispanic judges that dutifully serve on our federal courts across the nation."

President: If it's not the Latinos whining, it's the Hispanics doing the puling.

NEXT!

Raul Yzaguirre: "Our community continues to contribute to the greatness of this nation and yet, we are ignored for a vital role on our third branch of governance."

President: Are you still talking?

President and General Counsel Ann Marie Tallman testifies at Roberts hearing.

MALDEF opposes confirmation of John Roberts for Supreme Court. Among other things, Roberts played a key role in the Reagan Administration’s attempts to roll back civil rights and opposed many of MALDEF’s core principles on access to justice, education, immigrant rights, and fair employment.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus opposition to conservative lawyer Miguel A. Estrada, who was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit but dropped out two years ago after being blocked by Democrats.

Ann Marie Tallman , president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said the project members want to educate the public about the "long lasting and far reaching" impact that the judiciary has on people's lives.

"This is not a lobbying exercise. This is about making sure the electorate is informed," she said in an interview. " . . . As an informed electorate, we should be able to weigh in with our opinions."

He also looks a bit like an older version of me.

He also kind of (sort of) looks like an older Ritchie Valens.
