Rush is always humble and respectful before administration officials. It is because of the offices they hold, not agreement with their position. I don't think he is backing down for a moment.

So when exactly is it correct for politicos to execute the scorched earth strategy advocated by so many on this board?

Rush ripped the selection for twenty minutes at the start of the program. Respect or not, he should have told Cheney those comments were his. But it's ok for Rush to get along.

Of course he's not backing down. He's going to put caller after caller on to agree with him.

I haven't heard facts here on this thread and it is extremely disappointing to hear so much criticsm when so little has been actually said about this nominee. We conservatives beat our own before the opening statements!

Typical day on Free Republic. A good percentage of this forum will trash anyone who doesn't hold their narrow minded view of what a "conservative" should be. They are the same ones who always claim they support the President but most never have and either do not vote or vote third party.

Speaking of ex-democrats, did you know Jim Robinson was a democrat at one time. I even voted for Ross Parrot in 1992.

My name is Leroy, and I once worked for Clean Gene McCarthy (but only 'cause the girls were looser).

All together now: "Hello, Leroy....."

When Thomas was nominated there was endless shrieking about him certainly NOT being the most qualified person for the Court.

Some things never change. Too bad so many of us fall into the media trap and rush to attack our own.

Would we want to go to war with the Senate Republicans as our army?

There's some food for thought...

And that is the message to all conservative judges that if you show courage at lower court levels, stick your neck out for strict constructionism, you will have no chance for advancement.

Post of the day, in my opinion.

I am not attacking Miers. I don't know about her. But that is the problem. I am attacking Bush because I don't know about her.

I object strongly to that misrepresentation of what is occuring.

I do NOT trash this President, I defend him daily. If you are going to advance the argument it is only the usual discontents disappointed, I suggest you prove it to be so. Start with my own posting history. It defies your accusation and I welcome you to read it.

She and Laura Bush both went to SMU

Is that bad or good thing?

Rush - "If you want to go to war, do you want the Senate Republicans to be your army?"

Not sure if I want the house members either. What are they doing about the phone calls coming from "We The People" about DeLay and themselves that are going out to their districts?

I agree pretty much. There are almost always better qualified people for any job. I would have rather Bush nominated Luddig or Pryor or someone that's a proven hard line conservative, but Miers could well be someone like them who's just not known. What bothers me is this knee jerk atmosphere here. I will not discount the fact that she's been in the administration for years, and Bush has known her for a very long time. And there are a lot of proven conservatives who have come out to bat for her today. Until I hear something that indicates she has liberal tendencies, I can't oppose her with a clear conscience. I base opinions on what I know, not what I think. And fear is a terrible place from which to base an opinion.

If someone foolishly poses the argument FR cannot survive this, they have no context of the history of the board.

You are quite right, of course, but I would not be surprised to see it posited.

Granted, it is not a constitutional obligation nor did he make the promise he'd appoint the best legal and experienced mind, absent Robert as a choice, for the position. This is why I defy those that contend this is a betrayal. But it's certainly a disappointment personally.

The best way to throw off the left - do what they'd least expect.

Bush did with this nominee.

Next vacancy, the left will expect a repeat performance.

Janice Rogers Brown

Curtains to the left.

I didn't mention you by name nor did I imply you one bit.

If what I said struck a nerve, then so be it.

It is up to you ---- I was posting that tidbit to a poster that was not happy about this nomination, and posited the horrible thought that perhaps Miers and Laura Bush are best friends...

I was just pointing out that they went to the same university...so there could be some "friendship" involved...but I don't know.

I report, YOU decide...if it means anything, to you or the USA.
