The arguments about Terri were far more contentious than I think the ones about Miers ever could be, and we survived that.
From what I heard, the 2000 primaries were fairly contentious.
If someone foolishly poses the argument FR cannot survive this, they have no context of the history of the board.
Rush is always humble and respectful before administration officials. It is because of the offices they hold, not agreement with their position. I don't think he is backing down for a moment.
I don't totally disagree with that statement.
As far as I know the only constitutional requirement to be a Supreme Court Justice is to be nominated by the President with the advise and consent of the Senate. She passed the first hurdle today.
Just note that when Nixon nominated Rhenquist, he was viewed by many as not being well qualified either. I'd more concerned, if Bush nominated a seventh grade sceince to teacher to head NASA but being an appeals court judge is not rocket science.
After all he did tell Vice President Cheney..people are saying.....so he got a person to say......
Count on Rush having the majority calls support his rant.
Rush has not attacked this president.
Why can you not accept a person can disagree?
Yikes...Reid just said that the fact that she voted for Gore makes him feel better....blech...
Of course, he didn't mention that it was in the 80's, NOT against President Bush!!!
Do you get the impression that Harry was a little pale, and not really happy about having to fight with his own party, possibly???? LOL
I wonder how much influence the "Super Duper" RINO Senators (Snowe, Collins, Chafee, Hagel, Specter...)had on the decision to nominate Miers?
Pro-life views are not extremist.

Do we know what cases SCOTUS will be hearing this session?
(Besides Anna Nicole's!)
If Miers is confirmed she is going to plunge right in, of course with Roberts at the helm. I have every confidence in both of them.
She is wearing makeup in her appearance with the President, and that is a sure sign that she is a good conservative (think Cindy Sheehan).
There's something else about this that bothers me, more than not knowing her judicial views. And that is the message to all conservative judges that if you show courage at lower court levels, stick your neck out for strict constructionism, you will have no chance for advancement. How many smart, ambitious folks are going to want to issue controversial opinions or work with The Federalist Society if that means no GOP president will nominate you for a higher court? The pressure on the Supreme Court seems to be leftward, Kennedy and OConner didn't start out as weak sisters. I'd rather see someone who has shown they won't be pushed to the left, but that seems to be an automatic disqualification for nomination. Longterm, that can't be good.
I am disappointed that so many people here are jumping on this woman and the President when they can't possibly know anything about her. Sure I wish Bush had put a "Scalia-Thomas" up. But there are tons of people just like them, who aren't even known to be like them. I wish people would be rational enough to see what this lady is like before they throw their hands up and give up. I'd like to have had a fight and put a hard conservative in the rats faces and make them fight, but that didn't happen. So right now, we can either whine and moan like a bunch of old ladies, or we can pray this woman is a real firm conservative, like everyone who knows her has come out and said she is, and support her. She appears to be significantly more conservative than o'conner is, and that's a big win right there.I agree. I have been reading all of the posts this morning and two real-world issues are not being considered (by those who wanted an in-your-face nomination of a 'known' conservative):1) The pick needs to be confirmed by a very squishy GOP Senate, and
2) The media will never allow a fair playing field for GWB to wage the battle everyone seems to be itching for.
I have to trust GWB on this one. He's known her for a long time.
He couldn't get out of the presser fast enough *L*
The jewish holiday begins at sundown this evening.
The divide is becoming greater between the conservative wing of the pubbies and the moderate wing.
That is where the great divide is.
Sometimes people can't tell the difference between a moderate pubbie and demo rat.
Guess what???
She and Laura Bush both went to SMU---don't know if they were friends...but that should make you feel worse(?).
