E-mail I just received from Ken Mehlman ("Harriet Miers Needs Your Help!!")
rnc.com | Ken Mehlman

Posted on 10/03/2005 8:29:40 AM PDT by Gunder

Dear ------,

Today, President Bush announced his choice to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor as the next Supreme Court Justice: Harriet Miers. Ms. Miers is the third woman to be nominated for the Supreme Court, and like Justice O'Connor is a legal trailblazer. Ms. Miers is an extremely well-qualified and fair-minded individual who is committed to interpreting the law instead of legislating from the bench.

President Bush selected Ms. Miers after embarking on a thorough and deliberate thought process. This confirmation however promises to be much more contentious than the confirmation of Judge John Roberts. Before Ms. Miers was even announced many Democrat groups said they would oppose her. They have no interest in giving Ms. Miers a fair hearing or vote. They are promising to throw every punch, make every accusation and pressure every Senator to oppose this nominee no matter what her qualifications may be. We have to be prepared to counter their actions and that is why Harriet Miers needs your help.

To ensure Ms. Miers is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, I need you to do three things.

1. Call your Senators. Tell them Harriet Miers has your support and deserves theirs.

2. Sign our petition in support of the timely confirmation of Harriet Miers.

3. Call talk radio, write a letter to the editor of your local paper and tell your friends and neighbors why you support the President's choice.

Harriet Miers has a record that demonstrates a commitment to faithfully applying the Constitution. For more information on the nominee, go to www.gop.com.

In the coming years and decades, the decisions the Supreme Court makes will greatly affect all of our lives. We need a jurist on the court who will not legislate from the bench, who will approach cases with an open mind and who will be fair. Ms. Miers is that jurist. Call your Senators. Tell them to vote yes on the confirmation of Harriet Miers.

Sincerely,

Ken Mehlman, RNC Chairman

You have to remember that this is day time and most of the real conservatives are at jobs and can't post. We are being over run this morning with DUers and Dems in disguise trying to sow a little discordence amoung the ranks. Also, we have the usual amount of libertarians making their case for voting 3rd party next election to make sure the Dems regain control of the government.

All these people are judging this woman on the fact that the candidate THEY wanted didn't get nominated. Most of them no nothing about her and are letting a few right wing pundits( I love 'em, don't get me wrong) do their thinking for them.

I, for one, will wait and see, and check her out first before making up my mind one way or another.

It is too bad we can't weed the DUers who post on here out but you can recognize them pretty easy, they are the ones who say, "That's it, not one more dime for the pubbies until they start towing the mark!", same old, same old every time.

It was predictable what would happen with Bush's nominee, no matter who he picked, could have been JRB and they would still be complaining.

Check here for starters:

There's another thread on FR in which Miers' pastor discusses her faith. I'll do a search and find it.

Further, I love the idea of having a practicing lawyer on the court. It's about diversity and all.

Please, oh PLEASE ask me for donations this election season!

You know what's fun? When they send that fund-raising letter, send back your "reply" in their return envelope. Organizations only pay the postage if these envelopes are actually sent back.

You people are going nuts. She'll line up with the organic constitution. She'll have great guidance from the CJ...she'll also NOT BE a swing vote like O'Connor. She's not a liberal. She's probably not extreme right but she's right leaning.

Just wait and see, she'll prove to be a great justice. Remember she's from Texas, we're basically conservative and patriotic folks in this great state.

Harriet Miers

Valley View Christian Church in Dallas, Texas was Miers' church from 1980 until more recent years. When pastor Ron Key was asked about Miers' views on abortion, he said, "her personal views are consistent with that of evangelical Christians... You can tell a lot about her from her decade of service in a conservative church." [1] He also said, "We [Valley View Church] believe in the biblical approach to marriage."

I just got the same email too and immediately clicked on "unsubscribe".

I'm fed up with the RINO party, and getting angrier by the minute about what this selection implies about where Bush's head is at.... Appease the liberals? We should be taking the fight to them. Can you imagine them appointing a center right or even a center left justice? No way. Ultra liberal all the way is the game they play. They shove it in our faces all the time.... We needed this pick to restore balance and shove something back at them for a change..... Unbelievable....

One thing I do know. She supported Algore. That in itself is enough not to be for her.

she's right leaning

With all due respect, why should conservatives have to settle for "right leaning". This president was elected with the expectation that he would give us a CONSERVATIVE court.

More here.

I am not saying this woman is the next Scalia or anything but we need to remember picking Supreme Court Justices is not a science. When it came to appointing originalists to the court, Ronaldus Magnus only went 1 for 3. Bush the elder is reamed for picking Souter but what is overlooked is that he also nominated Thomas.

Liberal icon Kennedy selected Byron White, who turned out to be quite conservative.

Only Klintoon had success in appointing his ideological soul mates to the Court. This says more about the intellectual vacancy on the left as well as the diversity of ideas on the right, than it does about the Toon's ability to appease his constituency.

1) the Republicans control both the House and the Senate. He has called for restraint on every budget. He has been ignored by the Congress.

2)He has not abandoned anything. We have border enforcement better than what we did have.

3)His NCLB actually is getting some result out of the Federal money that would have been spent anyway. If you want to get elected, just tell everyone you are gonna cut education spending.

4)He didn't propose it. He did not support it. He told Congress explicitly that he would sign it if it made it to his desk. Not his fault the dumba$$es in Congress sent it to him.

5)Cutting the budget is not going to happen. That is a political reality. There is only a small amount of discretionary spending in the budget to cut, and its mostly lib pet projects. I've heard him called racist enough.

This should be setting off alarms everywhere. I feel so betrayed today. I don't know what else to say. I want to believe the President, but he makes it so hard. He says the right things, but where is the beef?
