Maybe Bush picked her out of loyalty but knows she will never be confirmed. Perhaps he has someone else in mind but puts this woman out there first to let the dems do their chewing up and spitting out. Then when she doesn't get confirmed, he picks his REAL choice: the dems will look like obstructionists if they go after his second choice. The prez once again beats the dems at their own game. He has kept this ladys friendship, gotten his real choice, and once again pulled one on the dems. Just a thought. (tin foil hat off)

The inevitable charges of cronyism, which apparently have already begun, will just damage his credibility. Future nominees will have a harder time getting through because of it. There's no strategery there.

A possible flaw in your theory: The Dems like her. She, according to one post, is on the do-not-filibuster list.

If that's so then Bush is a real scumbag. No one puts their friends or loyal employees through the humiliation of a confirmation defeat which they know they cannot overcome.

Why on earth do you think the democrats will filibuster her or vote her down?

You have not sobered up yet have you? If she sails through, that whole plan goes right down the toilet.

I didn't catch the whole context but W just mentioned her work with Exodus International. If that's the case, you know the libs are going to have a major hissy fit.

I hope you're right b/c she's not gonna get any support from me in her confirmation. The Dems can have her.

You mean like he signed McCain-Feingold but he knew it would be struck down by the Sup Ct?

I hear a bunch of you saying this, presumably to make yourselves feel better. I don't buy it. To do something like this would be so far out of Bush's character, I can't see it even as a possibility. If nothing else, he's famed for being loyal to his friends - I don't think he would ever put someone out there just to have them knocked down.
