Well, let's wait and see. Roberts is fantastic. The son is not the father.

The HYSTERIA on this thread is like the Rats. Posters are going over the edge.

You got that right. Knee jerk whining just like a bunch of liberals.

It may be hysteria, but understandable. Many have been posters here for for 4 or 5 years, some longer. Conservatives can be whiners too, especially when their leaders disappoint them.

"I will be voting 3rd party this year for the first time. I switched from Democrat to Republican in the 90's, and now from republican to something else in the 00's."

I'll be having grilled cheese for lunch.

Your right. No one gives a rats behind.

I will trust him. You can choose not too. I will also never forgive him if this turns out to be a pro-abort court. I am going to go and pray very hard now.

No, now is the time for good Freepers to find out how to be primary delegates, how to be instrumental in primaries to knock out the Rinos.

Third parties are a waste of time until the democrats are eliminated. As long as the democrats exist the republicans can nominate rinos.

Except it's probably not that Exodus, but this one http://www.exodusministriesinc.com/objective.htm . (according to her profile: "EXODUS Ministry, Inc. Former Member, Board")

Sorry -- wrong Exodus:

"Exodus is both a challenging and gratifying ministry that seeks to encourage ex-offenders, to reunite them with their families, and to empower them to become self-sustaining, productive, Christ-centered members of society. Individuals are needed to help in the Exodus offices to serve as Bible Study leaders, computer instructors, and tutors/mentors. Professional experts, such as doctors, dentists and lawyers, are welcome at Exodus to help with both guidance and more immediate needs."

Again with the age! How old is a generation to you?

See how many 80 yo leaders we have -- and with medicine going the way it is, this will only be extended. Justices don't retire at 65.

There are 40 year old idiots and turncoats, there are 40 year olds who drop dead from heart attacks. If she were in her mid-to-late 70s, maybe we'd have cause for concern over her age. I think there is enough cause for concern for other reasons -- age isn't the foremost!

From the time of the Carter administration to the Clinton administration, I had gone 180 degrees on abortion rights among other things.

It does happen. And it happens to a lot of us. Just the proper Churchillian development...liberal youth, growing conservativism with age, experience, and wisdom.

"Just the fact that she's a CHRISTIAN (gasp) is enough to send them over the edge. First a CATHOLIC now THIS????"

No, it is because Exodus believes homosexuals and be changed by the transforming power of Christ!

That is why MSM will go ballistic.

How is the GOP going to stay united when there is a huge and growing policy divide between the elected representatives and the base?

The base seemed fine with Bush 41. I can't swear to it, but i think he was pro choice. I'm pretty sure Barbra was. I think some of the extreme Bush bashing coming from the left and the media is beginning to brainwash some of our own. It seems no one knows anything about this woman but are immediately thinking the worst about her. President Bush has pulled the rug out from under the Dems before. I think he may be doing it again. I'd say he knows her better than we do. The only thing they have on Ms. Miers is the fact she contributed to a prolife candidate 17 years ago. Good grief, I voted for Clinton in 92 but today I am a card carrying Republican who wouldn't dream of voting Democrat. Unless its Zell, of course.

"Exodus is a worldwide interdenominational, Christian organization called to encourage, strengthen, unify and equip Christians to minister the transforming power of the Lord Jesus Christ to those affected by homosexuality."

LOL, literally! Well, I do have an open mind. The hearings will be interesting. ;)

Harriet Meirs was one of the names on a “no filibuster” list. She is no conservative. I love President Bush but WHY WHY why did he do this when he could have chosen LUTTIG, ALITO, BROWN, JONES.

I just don't GET IT??????????

Well, you can see the political logic - criminalizing the behavior of around 40% of female voters - most of them otherwise law abiding citizens - is probably not an attractive move from the perspective of someone like Karl Rove. The party likely can’t attract a much higher percentage of male voters than it already does, it needs to hold and increase the minority of women who now vote Republican to insure its current position as a bare majority party.

OTOH "social conservative" issues are not high on the priority list of the Corporatist side of the party, several major business groups announced this spring that they were not going to expend political capital on such efforts.

And probably, the logic is correct – if Meirs and Roberts do turn of to be only modestly social conservative most people here will probably vent a bit, and then turn around and vote Republican.

"Sky is blue -- details at 11."

I have a feeling that short of a nominee performing an abortion in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Planned Parenthood would be against said nominee.
