Carl Cameron on FOX now saying that when Bush met with them, the Democrats suggested Meiers as someone they could vote for. This is definitely not good.

On CNBC they said she no Thomas or Scalia. She is a pragmatic conservative and would be favorable to business.

Janice Brown got the knife in her back.

I was hoping for her and am very, very disappointed.

I'd like to believe the best, but this is discouraging. I'm not sure I'll bother getting an absentee ballot in '08.

Well...I am just shocked at the so-called conservatives in here....who are calling Bush names, saying he is dumb, saying the DU'ers are right, going to vote for Hillary....etc....etc...when you are 'GUESSING' this woman will vote Pro-choice and saying she looks dead, and too old. I am really disappointed at the remarks in here....unbelievable.

and what do we know about her?

What, exactly, did we know about John Roberts at the time of his nomination?

You have not sobered up yet have you? If she sails through, that whole plan goes right down the toilet.

Well I said it was just a thought.

I am uneasy about this pick for this job.

Agreed. Another stealth candidate -- not good.

I don't think it will go back to the rats -- they're nothing but a bunch of communists. My theory is the pubs will keep drifting left due to the influx of liberals abandoning the democrat ship.

I will be looking hard at the constitution and other alternative parties. There is obviously no place for conservatives in the Republican party, and we must find a new home.

This too corresponds with my view of the historical trend. I see the democrat party marginalized and dying, the republican party becoming the liberal party, and a new conservative party rising to challenge them from the right.

Time to get to work.

LOL, How old are you?

I'm 42, and I can't say that all my opinions are fixed in stone. That's called ... death?

The only thing written in stone for me is the Bible -- everything else is up for reinterpetation as I continue to grow, learn and gain wisdom.

Seems like if she is changing, it is in the right direction.

I'm not thrilled with her nomination, but no Kool-Aid for me yet.

Ya know, someone's going to have to explain - in pure English - just why there's this thought going around here this AM that this is a headfake, with Meirs destined to be shot down by the Senate.

SAY WHAT?!! The Dems will love her and she'll sail through with probably ZERO votes against.

Now, maybe the Republicans will vote against her..

Face it, gang..this isn't "strategery". This is a total failure, sell-out of epic proportions that will END the Republican party control of Senate, WH, Congress for DECADES.

It's almost like someone from the DNC has W's ear and is advising him. Because the "evil genius" (er, moron) Karl Rove sure can't be working for US!

President saying Mier's "will not legislate from the bench" and that he's "known her for more than a decade" and "knows her heart." So, why did he pick her and not Brown?

We can only speculate. The objections to Miers are more likely to be based on qualifications and cronyism, while the objections to Brown would be based on her interpretation of Constitutional principle.

Whether or not GWB is avoiding a fight based on Constitutional principle, in favor of a fight based on a charge of personal favor -- well, we can only guess. It is fair to assume that this was a carefully made choice.

Business week editor criticizing Scalia and Thomas for not being pro business enough, enough for me that business watches where the wind blows and cares little for the constitution.

I didn't catch the whole context but W just mentioned her work with Exodus International. If that's the case, you know the libs are going to have a major hissy fit.

They are having that hissy right now over at the DU

The game of politics is not pretty.

It's not a game, in the sense that these Rube Goldberg schemes have any validity. Bush nominated her because he expects and hopes her to win the confirmation. Not that I approve.

No, she doesn't sound like the best choice...which begs the question, why?
