If Reid supports her, that raises a red flag. Reid can't stand judges who aren't open to legislating from the bench.

"I trust Ann Coulter's take on Roberts and I can't wait to hear what she has to say about this one."

Yeah. I bet she eats her alive. She'd be right too. One has to wonder, why we went through all of the trouble of winning both houses and voting for Bush if he wasn't going to nominate strong conservatives like WE (the ones who put them and him in office) wanted.

People are disagreeing in this thread vehemetly but one this is standard...nobody is CHEERING THIS PICK!

"a person is in their 40's and still supporting Democratic candidates, it's pretty hard to believe that she is suddenly a rock-ribbed conservative (short of a dramatic life-changing event)"

I guess Democratic senator Zell Miller might disagree with your protest. As I recall he did a pretty good job of telling us what it meant to be a conservative. Don't you agree?

Jay Sekulow makes mistakes sometimes too. But, that would be an entirely different discussion so I'll leave it at that.

I wouldn't frame the Russert statement as an "endorsement" so much as an observation.

Yeah, I agree with that. It was the GOP that said on the web site "Praise For Miers Nomination To Supreme Court:",

I think your assessment is more a more accurate reflection of what he said.

That's good enough for me until proven otherwise.

By that time it will be too late to do anything about it. Can't you see that?

Let's just vote in all the whacky leftists, and get it over with. Obviously there is zero difference between the majority of republicans in govt and the democrats.

Just buy your guns and ammo now while ya still can.

I don't agree with anything you just said.

I heard Dick Cheney telling Rush that we (conservatives) will NOT be disappointed in her, and I trust him too.

For the President and for the people who know her, this is not a 'gamble.' I believe in the American legal system.......she is not guilty until proven so, and nothing I've seen about her indicates guilt at all.

Actually, if you look at it from the conservative standpoint, it reveals a lot of courage to buck what he knew would be an initial conservative skepticism to pick the person he really thought was best.

He knows the left is going to hate Miers. If you think Schumer and Reid are being honest about this and the President isn't, I have serious doubts about your judgement.

Why should they?

There's nothing to cheer.

She strikes me as the kind of nominee we would see if the Dems controlled the Senate. I guess that's what bothers me so much.

"If Bush were a democrat, FReepers would be livid.
You know, I was just thinking to myself the other day - in light of all that is going on today, would I be supporting Bush if he were a Democrat? And the answer was..."

My answer was not a good one either. I don't know this Bush in his second term. Not the same Bush. Or was he ever?

It forces Democrats to declare themselves anti-Christian.

Are you sure everyone in the world doesn't already know this? I'm glad we can finally hang the "anti-Christian" label on the Democrats while we're shoveling dirt onto the corpse of the constitution.

You are absolutely right, I'd forgotten about Zell Miller, I'd bet you can count on one hand the number of counterexamples to my assertion.

Well for years Jim Robinson told us it's all about the Supreme Court Justices.

The very reason for the existence of Free Republic is over. The entire movement has been had.

It's over, we lost, our ways will be only known through history books in a few generations.

Yeah. I bet she eats her alive.

Normally I'd be happy to see Ann eat anything... But I'd rather she would feast on the other side.
