The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

...so far, most of the American "jihadists" the Muzzies have been able to produce have not been interested in killing themselves. (snip) American converts, whether Black Muslims or teenage white losers who convert to Islam, generally don't seem to do the suicide part of these attacks.
I was going to respond, "There's a first time for everything." But I thought, why bother? Key words there were "so far".
Perhaps the bus driver's report is being combined with some other eyewitness report. I don't know. But I remember that very early on in this thread, there was a report that a bus driver was looking at Hinrichs at the very moment he exploded. This was the bus driver who was knocked back. I imagine this is the same bus driver who saw him go to the bench, sit down, and start taking something out.
RTE.
I am not familiar with OK. public records laws. You might try doing a search in the tax assesor/ property appraisers records to find the property owner of record. You could also search the Public records of the courthouse to find if there is any civil or non-felony criminal records for Hinrichs. Public records should also show if he was involved in any property transactions.
It would also interest me to know if Hinrichs was a joiner. Did he try out different groups to find one that met his philosophy. You would expect to find this behavior in someone who was frustrated and looking for answers.
Yesh, and Cindy says, "Let's get those occupying troops out of Norman!"
Yes, that sequence of events makes perfect sense to me. I would like to hear from some more witnesses to the guy's movements before the explosion.
And we don't know whether he actually intended to die with his victims. That he intended to blow other people up, and not simply commit suicide, I am certain. But it's possible he was going to plant the bomb and not be around when it exploded. So the possible unwillingness of American converts to go for the 72 virgins doesn't necessarily preclude their involvement in strictly homicidal bombings.
I think we're on the same page.

Israeli invention detects TATP explosives
By: Israel Insider staff and partners
Published: January 27, 2005
Researchers from Israel's Technion in Haifa have developed a device to detect the kind of improvised explosives increasingly used by Arab terror groups.
The new detector, named the Peroxide Explosive Tester (PET), looks like a three-color ball-point pen. The device releases three chemical mixtures that change color upon interaction with the suspected explosive materials.
A relatively new difficult-to-detect explosive material called triacetone-triperoxide (TATP), commonly known as acetone peroxide, is one of a group of explosives based on the unstable peroxide group of compounds. It is increasingly being utilized by terror groups, who used it in the Dolphinarium Disco massacre, several bomb attacks in downtown Jerusalem, and the failed attempt to down a passenger plane by Muslim shoe-bomber Richard Reid.
One of the most alarming attributes of TATP is that it cannot be detected by bomb-sniffing dogs, making it easier to smuggle into airports and onto airplanes. It is also very easy to synthesize in clandestine labs, using readily available chemicals.
"To our great surprise," PET's inventor, Prof. Ehud Keinan, Dean of the Technion's Faculty of Chemistry, wrote in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, "we discovered that TATP is very different from all other conventional explosives in that it does not release heat during the explosion. It explodes by rapid decomposition of every solid-state molecule to four gas-phase molecules. This rare phenomenon, scientifically known as 'Entropic Explosion', is reminiscent of the rapid reaction that produces gas in the safety air-bags of cars during accidents."

{My goodness, now this is just an interesting little chemistry project isn't it?}
In addition to Prof. Keinan, the research that made PET possible was carried out by Prof. Yehuda Zeiri of the Nuclear Research Center in the Negev, and Professors Ronnie Kosloff and Joseph Almog of Jerusalem's Hebrew University, together with their research teams.
You know, that's really a good term.
Lame Stream Media was getting kind of old, and besides they deserve to be demoted to a new term -- News-hiders works very well.
Good thing they swept the stadium at OU before the game, and after the explosion, with bomb-sniffing dogs...
Well, the News Cartel is devoted to providing us with fact-free news so I reckon what they do is indeed News-hiding.
Let me 'splain
The kid was an engineering student. Engineers, by nature design/build things which are task specific. Efficiency is like breathing to these people.
A sack of nails/junk/nuts and bolts and some contact cement would have made this a much more effective antipersonnel device. It apparently was not designed that way.
Reports of more than one device may have indicated that the busses were the target, where such a device could have been placed in proximity to the fuel tanks for an effect multiplier.
The triggering mechanism would also be tailored for the job (that engineering mindset again).
For a vehicle, especially a bus, a motion activated trigger would be likely, to catch people on and around the bus or go off when the bus starts moving. In a good design the device would have to have an arming switch, just to transport it safely.
If the motion trigger were the right type, just being at the wrong angle would close the circuit.
No problem if the arming switch is off.
If, however, the arming switch were inadvertently turned on while, say, removing the bomb from a backpack, the device would detonate.
No more jihadi.
You forgot the crochet hat
"Fact-free news."
Ha, indeed.
Like a diet. You can have low-fact or fact-free.
Of course us lowly serfs in the Pajama Patrol aren't privy to the inside dope on what went bang so we gotta speculate. I just don't think it was ANFO at all. Knew a guy who used it for mining in New Mexico; they poured the stuff in drill holes as I recall then packed it with a broom handle and shot the stuff in each hole by using a quarter-stick of dynamite per hole to make it go off. Not really a high grade explosive.
Plus today's report that he tried, but was unable to buy ammonium nitrate.
(Don't try this at home, kids!)
