From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said. The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.
The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.
After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

The University of Oklahoma will tighten security at Memorial Stadium after a student with explosives attached to his body died in a blast within 100 yards of thousands of fans watching a football game there, the school's president said today. Gee, if this was just a suicide, why are they tightening security? Does Boren know about other depressed kids on campus? /sarc

I found it weird too, especially when some of those posters profiles show they just signed up for FR.

After I posted it, I saw backhoe already did! He knows everything, everywhere, and has it all on a thread somewhere.

The MSM is ignoring it because it's a Red State issue. It's obvious.

Insofar as Hinrich' depression/gullibility angle is concerned I wonder if he was one of the Paxil/Zoloft brigade as a kid and if he was still on something like that? Could make him more susceptible to being "guided" by some new-found friends.

If he was being surveilled and they were SURE he was toting a bomb there's likely to be someone authorized to take extreme measures to deal with such a situation. Yup. The Viking Kitties may have given this guy a Super Zot.

Yeah, I definitely saw people with bags like that. My thinking was just that a student with a backpack would probably have been stopped - not for security so much as to check for alcohol - and I wonder if any gate guards recall him trying to enter and then leaving? With the bomb maybe on a timer? Just a thought...

Speaking of zots a certain crop of posters seem to be conspicuously absent tonite. Where's the "nothing to see here; move along detachment" at?

Could make him more susceptible to being "guided" by some new-found friends. That too is possible. The only thing I'm willing to remove from the realm of possibility is that this was just a suicide.

Indeed. As soon as this story started taking off here, they seem to have vanished. I guess they realized they couldn't control our thoughts.

I wonder if any gate guards recall him trying to enter and then leaving? There's a report somewhere on this thread, I think, that a bus driver saw him try to go in, but he left when they tried to search his pack. Then, according to the driver, he went to the bench, sat down, and started taking something out of the pack. If true, it would seem he changed his plans and decided to smuggle the bomb in on his person, and it went off as he tried to transfer it from the pack.

I just read one of my earlier posts, and thought I'd stress this again:
Remember that an American convert appeared in the last videotape warning. Does anyone think that was just an accident or a novel idea? To me, it was a glaring statement from the folks at AQ that attacks would now come from such American recruits. It might also have been a message to said recruits that their time had come to be the front line.

You know, I was thinking on Sunday night after absolutely NO reporting on this issue that certainly Rush would mention it on Monday. NOT A PEEP!
It just seemed really odd to me. NONE of the talk shows have mentioned a word of this to my knowledge....yet the Lake George coverage has been on 24/7 and we get full hours of young girls missing. Not that missing girls aren't important, but they didn't commit "suicide" in front of a lock-downed stadium filled with over 85,000 souls, that has been combed with bomb sniffing dogs the day of the game. If they knew the kid was going to commit suicide why didn't they just find him and get his help.
Scary stuff. I can deal with what I know, it's the unknown that scares the sh*t out of me!

That makes sense to me. And it would have been fairly easy to get something that fits into a backpack underneath a baggy shirt, and into the stadium. But a bus driver who could see the bench could not have seen the stadium entrance - buildings in between. Maybe he just saw him head that way, and then return? Although, FWIW, the bench (south oval) area is not on the way to the stadium from his apartment (if the address I've read is correct.)
