From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said. The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.
The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.
After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

I think the "lone suicide" theory is pretty much blown. Particularly when you consider the arrest of the other OU student, Dreyling, on explosive charges. I think the actions of these two young men, together with the presence of the 9/11 hijackers in Norman, indicates a strong sleeper cell there. Which is probably why the investigators are keeping their mouths shut.

This really upsets me. I grew up in Oklahoma. I still do not believe that the average Oklahoman is anything but a red-blooded American.
On the other hand, I guess this explains why so many of my Oklahoma friends are sending their kids to other colleges.

Reduction of potential for panic, not just in OU, but at football games and sporting events all over.Every person was patted down at yesterday's Falcons game at the Georgia Dome.

"His actions in regards to the border do not reflect that though, which is why I think they are either utterly incompetent, or they feel that the threat is low."
Members of his own administration publicly said it's not a question of "if" but of "when". You have to ignore the Bush administration to believe that safe borders are low priority.

"What our government would really not want us to know is, that a suicide bomber came into the country illegally through our southern border"
depends on where he came thru. with the dim gov declaring border emergency, they might use it as a reason to call down a repub gov for not declaring emergency.

Sure seems like he intended to be around a while--either that, or the report of explosives isn't accurate. I read that it appeared that the bomb prematurely went off. He was supposedly attaching the bombs to a bus and something went wrong. Authorities also found another bomb right next to where he was killed.

If the bench was destroyed where he was sitting, how was he attaching the bomb to a bus? Hmmmm. Nope. That ain't it.
It may have prematurely detonated, but my bet is that whoever (maybe him, maybe not) had expected some crowd outflux from the stadium at halftime and the crowd was late.

I have no doubt that somebody will try something someday, but the reality is, a free and stable Iraq and Afghanistan are more dangerous to ME terrorists than the US is, and they have to do everything they can to make our efforts over there fail, otherwise they are in deep trouble.
I think that is why the borders are relatively open (and yes, they are open once you get away from the cities/major crossing points).

I think the fact that his apparent only communcation with his father for the past month was "a few emails" is pretty sad. Don't people talk to their kids anymore?

I agree that taking the war to the enemy is a good thing, how about that? As for the rest, said my peace about borders on this thread. FRegards....

The article is from the Norman Transcript, the local newspaper. You were expecting the New York Times? };-)

Which is a simpler explaination in the WTC case, that a plane flying at near supersonic speed hits one of the tallest buildings in the world on a cloudless day, or that the plane was hijacked and flown into it on purpose? I would argue that it is the latter. Pretty easy to say after the fact!
