From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

Another witness says the smoke was about what you would see at a BBQ grill.

Just another case of "Grills Gone Wild".

Nothing to see here folks. I'm sure the MSM will sort this all out for us when they're back on the clock...

They're smothering this story... how many Texans have blown-up in a suicide?!

Good things can happen by smothering the story. Any ME types that might hear it was an Al Quada bomber might call their Cuz Moham in Syria and ask what is going down. (Cuz Moham = Cuz Vinnie's cousin).

This gives INTEL types better information...

I don't mind missing some lame stream media coverage if our intelligence agencies can get missiles locked and loaded onto Cuz Moham's location.

Cars in Middle Eastern countries have been known to blow up... Some cell phones make a real nice target acquisition signal...

When I saw this thread, the Ramadama-dingdong offensive was the first thing I thought of. Savage is very troubled about it, because of that book about nukes-in-US. I'm skeptical about nukes in the US, myself-- the book's been out for over a year after all, but the author has an impressive history and a record of credibility. So I understand Savage's concern. FRegards....

I find it truly bizzare that you can hardly find any mention of this story in the press. It's not like bombs go off around packed college football stadiums every day in the USA. Either the MSM is on vacation or it intentionally buried. If it was not for FR you would never hear about it.

Police have cordoned off an area around the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botony, Microbiology building, pictured here, on the campus of Oklahoma University, after one person was killed in an explosion in a traffic circle about 100 yards from a packed football stadium at the University of Oklahoma on Saturday night, Oct. 1, 2005, in Norman, Okla., in what authorities are calling a suicide. "Good things can happen by smothering the story."

Yes, in the short term. But the problem is, the Feds will shut it down forever. And when it comes time to vote, people will be uninformed about the real dangers and needs of our country.

(I look for a future headline something like: "Nuclear detonation in Midtown Manhattan -- terrorism not suspected.")

More like "Large spike in background radiation in New York area", or "Mysterious flash seen near New York City."

This is weird. Unless it truely ended up being a non-event, such as a gas main explosion with no fatalities.

Remember, the press reported rumors as fact during Katrina, they are probably a little gun shy to report too fast now.

Kerry Pettingill, Oklahoma homeland security director, said the incident was under criminal investigation and the motive behind the explosion was not known.

OU police Sgt. Gary Robinson said the body had not been removed as of late Saturday night as a bomb team continued to check the area for possible explosives before detectives could move in for their investigation.

Kirin just reported it on FOX- she also mentioned there was a SECOND bomb detonated by the bomb-squad. Very matter-of-fact.

Unreal.

"Charcoal and wood do not explode, except in flavor."

If you pour liquid oxygen on a prtly started charcoal or wood fire, it burns hot and fast. Remember to stand WAY back. Google for example video.

The tiny article at Foxnews.com, the link is "Explosion Kills One at University of Oklahoma".

What does that make you think of? An accident, an explosion beyond human control.
The wording of that deliberately takes the purposeful intent out of it- no bomb, no suicide, nothing.

PhiKapMom - I just heard about this story this very minute and am trying to get caught up.

It is correct that the stadium shook from the blast, that there was more than one bomb found, and that cell phones and instant messaging did not work for some period of time? Did the police put in some kind of blockage regarding the cell phones or is that the result of the blast?

Is there any word on whether the student was Muslim?

This is astounding that no one in the national media is making a big deal about this.

Stan Hilton of Tulsa said he heard the explosion while he was watching the game from his seat near the field.

"I became afraid at halftime when they had us locked in the stadium," he said after he left the stadium.

- 84,000 Fans locked in a stadium is normal go about your business, nothing worth reporting here.
