Heartfelt prayers going up for Cathy and Ex-Soldier.
Amen.
Prayers lifted for Cathy, Ex-Soldier, and medical staff...
Remember the "Portland 6" jihadi's from a couple of years ago? One of the incidents that led LE to that cell was the muslims that were target practicing at an old gravel pit out of Washougal, WA. Washougal is a very small, rural town. Just north of Washougal is nothing but woods. It's about 30 minutes from Portland, Oregon.
Here is another article on the found emergency signal. This article says it was found in Camas, WA. Basically the same area as Washougal.

I have the same underlying concerns that you do.
It's quite odd.
I watched the video at the link and one thing stuck out:
At one point the reporter stated that the searchers hadd a hard time pinning down the location of the transmitter as it seemed to be "moving". They supposed that it could have been the signal was bouncing off the mountains.
I wonder if it was indeed....moving?
That's interesting Vel, I hadn't watched the video but I'll do that now. I'm in my usual mode of trying to do at least six things at once :-)
Prayers going up for your wife Cathy...prayers for you. May the Holy Spirit protect you both at this time.
