The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

London police arrest suspected trafficking kingpins

Police carrying out pre-dawn raids arrested the suspected kingpins of a
pan-European ring believed to have smuggled tens of thousands of
people, mainly Turkish Kurds, into Britain in the last few years. Law
enforcement officials in France, Italy, Holland, Belgium and Denmark
and the European police agency Europol all contributed to the two-year
investigation that culminated with 10 people arrested in a dozen raids in
London and the northern English city of Boston early Tuesday.

Indians Clash With Police in Colombia

Clashes broke out Monday between Colombian police and Indians
protesting a planned free trade accord with the United States, leaving
one Indian dead and at least 15 wounded. Some 8,000 Indians
embarked Monday on a weeklong march in western Colombia to protest
a trade deal that they say would only worsen Colombia's unemployment
woes.

Shining Path Founder Rejects Terror Charge

Abimael Guzman, the Shining Path founder whose messianic communist
vision inspired a rebellion that left nearly 70,000 people dead, denied
Monday in his civilian retrial that he was a terrorist. Guzman, a
70-year-old former philosophy professor, said he was a leader of the
Communist Party, not a terrorist.

Rwandan Militia Kill 15 in Congo Raid

A Rwandan militia killed 15 civilians with machetes and knives in a
nighttime raid on two villages in Congo's mountainous east, a U.N.
spokesman said Monday. Some 25 Rwandan, ethnic Hutu rebels
infiltrated through Congolese army lines Sunday night and killed the
villagers, said Kemal Saiki, the chief U.N. spokesman in Congo.

Fewer UK soldiers to be in Iraq

There will be 500 fewer UK soldiers in Iraq after a shake-up due next
month, Defence Secretary John Reid has said. He told MPs that the
latest routine rotation of UK troops would leave 8,000 soldiers in Iraq -
but he said the move was "relatively minor".

Jordanian court sentences 3 gunmen to prison for alleged
terror plot

Jordan's military court convicted two men Tuesday in a foiled terror
conspiracy targeting liquor stores and tourists in this Arab kingdom and
jailed each for five years. A third man was acquitted on the conspiracy
count, but was handed a token sentence for allegedly helping the other
two get a pistol. Charges were dropped against a fourth man who died of
cancer in August, according to defense lawyer Sameeh Khreis.

Kidnappers in Iraq take Lebanese hostage, negotiations

Another Lebanese citizen was kidnapped in Iraq on Saturday, leaving the
total Lebanese held at two, according to Daily Star sources in Iraq.
Samir Abi Saad, 56, a construction worker who also holds an Iraqi
nationality, "has been considered missing since Saturday, but the
Lebanese embassy doesn't consider him kidnapped yet," sources
working closely with the Lebanese embassy in Iraq said. Lebanese
Charges d'Affaires in Iraq, Hassan Hijazi told The Daily Star that the
Lebanese Embassy in Iraq is taking all measures possible to find Abi
Saad and release another kidnapped Lebanese Garabet Jekerjian, who
was abducted sometime last month.

Fadlallah insists Hizbullah constitutes reserve army

Senior Shiite cleric Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah said Hizbullah's
Islamic Resistance force in the South constitutes a reserve army to
protect Lebanon whenever it is threatened by Israel. Fadlallah's
comments came on Monday during his meeting with the UN's Secretary
General Representative in South Lebanon Gere Pederson.

Somali shock at new ship hijack

Somali pirates have hijacked a ship with its 10-member crew on its way
to the Somali port of El-Maan. The MV Torgelow was carrying fuel and
food to a UN-chartered vessel freed last week by gunmen who had held
it and its cargo of food aid for three months.

Kyrgyzstan lets U.S. keep using key base

Kyrgyzstan assured the United States on Tuesday it could keep its air
base in the former Soviet Central Asian state, a relief to Washington
which is being ejected from nearby Uzbekistan. President Kurmanbek
Bakiyev said at a joint news conference with visiting Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice that the 1,000 troops could stay as long as they were
needed to fly supply missions into Afghanistan in the fight against the
Taliban.

A bit of connect the dots trivia regarding Washougal.

Remember the "Portland 6" jihadi's from a couple of years ago? One of the incidents that led LE to that cell was the muslims that were target practicing at an old gravel pit out of Washougal, WA. Washougal is a very small, rural town. Just north of Washougal is nothing but woods. It's about 30 minutes from Portland, Oregon.

Here is another article on the found emergency signal. This article says it was found in Camas, WA. Basically the same area as Washougal.

I watched the video at the link and one thing stuck out:

At one point the reporter stated that the searchers hadd a hard time pinning down the location of the transmitter as it seemed to be "moving". They supposed that it could have been the signal was bouncing off the mountains.

I wonder if it was indeed....moving?
