Things are good here Thank God. Its interesting that the outer band of Rita is over my house right now, and looks like rain with wind gusts from 25-30 mph. I worry about tornado's spinning off from this band, but can't do anything about that. The Lake house at Lake Fork is ok according to the neighbor, just lots of rain. Drove into Dallas this morning to let Mayor Nagin know the 8th district was under attack by Mr. Bush again, but couldn't find him at his new digs. Guess he was out with Sheila Lee Jackson and Mayor Miller working on window treatments. Its a bitch to find just the right color scheme you know? My heart goes out to those folks on the coast, what a scary evening. I really live a blessed life...thanks to God and friends like you.

Any news about the Heights?

My sister in the Heights didn't lose power nor tree branches. The power outages seem to be scattered rather than entire areas of town, but I could be wrong.

Good to hear.

Glad to hear the FReepers fared so well. My hubby and I were also highly entertained by Shep's disappearing hat tricks. I was waiting for Geraldo to outdo him by pulling a Lt. Dan, from "Forest Gump" and ride out the storm on the mast of a shrimp boat. Now that would have been good journalism. BTW, I forget who was reported going feral in a leopard print speedo, but it was about the funniest thing I ever read.

I think Nagin has been watching TV and learning how a mayor is supposed to act. He just held a presser and actually managed not to make a complete fool of himself.

I have good friends who live in the Montrose area of Houston.

They've been without power since about 2:30 a.m. last night. Power still out. They heard a loud explosion, which they figured was a transformer. As yet, they haven't any word on how long the outage will be.

Apparently, they only get a recording when they call the designated Reliant Energy phone number.

It's not of course, but being without air-conditioning in this Houston climate seems like a fate worse than death!!!!!

OKEYDOKEY. Thanks for the correction.

Don't want to get into a pi$$ing contest with you, but also don't want folks to get the idea that a croc was loose in N'Awlin's.

Houston seems to have made out pretty good. I'm worried about those who decided to go east when they left. I'm afraid some of them ran right into the storm.

Just got my power back in Cypress. It went out at 5:00 AM and came back on at 3:00 PM. CenterPoint Energy is awesome. Hope everyone else is OK.

Ahhhhh, air conditioning and cold beer!!!

The only damage I had was that the pole holding my wind meter fell over. Can I get a $2000.00 Debit Card from FEMA for that?

Howdy from Houston Heights, made it through just fine. Decided to stay in town rather than take a chance on the highways (no gas, food or anything). It was not bad at all, winds in the 40 to 50 mph gusts-only extreme leaf damage to report. Some trees and limbs about, but my power and cable stayed on throughout. Life is good.

Regards, seeker41

Hi yall. Storm had little effect here in Sugar Land but the power went out for the last 20 hours. It's back, now.

Just got a call from home--have a tree on the roof, caved in, but the two HUGE pine trees in the front yard are lying across, blocking the street.

I'm sooooo glad I left.

They said our street is filled with downed trees.

There was some damage, but this will not be a disaster with national ramifications, IMHO.

In my corner of the world it was a disaster. I have a tree on my house and so do many of my friends.

I heard the refineries in Pt. Arthur didn't fare well but hope that is false info.

I'm still thankful I left when I did. Needed new carpet anyway!
