Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VI
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:39:06 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

Some of us are agreeing that perhaps Rita needs to make an example out of Geraldo, ifyaknowwhaddamean...

No water, or nothin when the evacuees arrived at the Superdome.

That's a media myth. The National Guard had set-up at the dome, and was feeding folks as early as 24 hours before landfall. There was no water or food at the Convention Center because it wasn't a designated shelter.

Well what yall say makes sense. I just tire of hearing because of NO. We aren't NO and would find a way to get people food and water.

I'm not looking at winds. I'm looking at clues about the thermodynamics of the heat-engine of Rita. I don't believe upper level winds will increase. But if the core parameters continue to get more robust, the only conclusion I can draw is that its getting nastier on the surface.

I wish that NOAA/AF would have more than 1 aircraft updating the vortex messages more often. It sure is confusing everybody, and it's a few hours from landfall.

Thank you, Miss M. Reading the post you are responding to made me wonder if I had lost my memory about what the President really said.

I couldn't believe he said that. I heard that guy tell Shep it was going to go over his head and now the Great Drama Queens think they know more than the expert.

They may not have a brain, but they sure don't take orders very well. That's where the slop comes in.

After we get the various reporting agencies synchronized on one coordinate system, we can start training the storms to move in straight lines between tight turns.

I'm going to grab a snack and a nap, then try to get back here by 0200 or 0300. I was down from 10 to 4 today, but it didn't do the trick, I'm typing like I'm underwater, with the expected number of typos.

Geraldo: "The grid is under assault. The power is being run by auto-pilot."

I wonder if he thinks that there is normally a person on a bicycle generating power or holding two cables together to keep the city power grid up? I like him OK but sometimes he really makes me wonder if he is not one sandwich shy of a picnic.

We had a few sprinkles earlier this evening. Not enough to get the sidewalk wet. Now there isn't even a breeze.

They[ve got to be careful or they'll get whacked on the evac, but probably not White cuz he's a rat, maybe FEMA? But FEMA wasn't really involved. Still, I expect them to get the blame for not having an improvised fueling station with bathrooms and ice cold drinks (water and gatorade) every thirty miles.

"Can you use an empty bottle? That's such of a waste of a beer".
Well, yes. Although with Lonestar, you hafta pound down the first three when they are ICE cold. Then the taste does not bother you as much.
Creativity points are awarded for "tagging" the Lonestar laden carcasses with sequential numbers. Use orange flourescent spray paint for maximum contrast.
