Able Danger: Witnesses now allowed to testify (DOD changes mind)
NRO ^

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:02:53 AM PDT by slowhand520

ABLE DANGER [Kathryn Jean Lopez] In from Specter's committee office: Washington, D.C.--Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, will hold a second hearing on Operation Able Danger on October 5, 2005.

In the initial hearing held on September 21, 2005, the Department of Defense refused to produce five key witnesses relating to the identification of 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta. The Department of Defense has now changed their position and will make the witnesses available in a public hearing. The Committee will focus on obtaining corroborating evidence as to what occurred with the pre-9/11 charts and information which were allegedly destroyed by order of DoD personnel.

Nice coordination with W coming back at Slick Willie in another article about BJ's failure to do something about terrorism and dead Americans during his 1990's 8 year orgy.

W needs to slam the libs badly again and again.

They would not have reversed themselves without a decision at the top. Yesterday we were hearing that Rumsfeld was backing the refusal to testify. Bush must have intervened to produce this change of course, because they could have continued to hide behind the pretence that it would violate security rules. I certainly don't think Specter is responsible for this change.

It's long past time that Bush stopped defending clinton from his treasonous malfeasances. Bring it out in the open and let clinton explain it.

I think my theory on this holds true.

By Rummy saying he would not permit open testimony the press jumped all over the story, asking questions. It now guarantees the media will cover it.

This sudden turnaround on testimony makes me nervous. The DoD's original objection was that it would "compromise security" for these witnesses to testify in open session. Now they say it is okay?

It suggests to me that a backroom deal has been struck as to what the witnesses will say, and what they will avoid. Normally, DoD freeing the witnesses to testify would be a good sign. But what bargain has been struck that will decrease the candor and effectiveness of those witnesses?

will Libs/Dems demand the testimony as they demanded the firing of Rove?

Not on your life.

Nope.

I think they wanted to slow down the process. I'd bet they interviewed them so there'd be no surprises. I'd also bet they had them reread and resign disposition of classified info forms.

Maybe the blame will fall on the clintoonian administration finally. However, knowing how it's coated with teflon by MSM, I doubt anything will come of the hearings. Because it's Clintoon's Fault.

I'm inclined to think that this is Bush letting Clinton twist in the wind because Bush got double-crossed by Clinton rather than the DoD successfully suborning the witnesses' testimony ... but perhaps a bit of both.

I think that President Bush's visit to the Pentagon, his statement on the "show of weakness" encouraging terrorism, coupled with Bill Xlintoon's statements recently, indicates a change of overall approach to the Global War on Terrorism, domestically. President Bush wants the ossified idiots who hang on from administration to administration to be extricated, and is now, thank God, no longer trying to be "civil" with the Xlintoon's and hide their treasonous behavior.

Or am I being too optomistic?

As I've said, even if the Administration would not allow them to testify, a subpoena would force it. Think some agreements were reached on what could be said. Sounds like Specter did "get to the bottom" of the silence by DOD.

Good News and on to the Hearings, Part II
