KLBJ radio reporting up to 5,000 cars parked along I-10 in Colorado County (near Columbus, TX) due to lack of gasoline or breakdowns. Also reporting trashcans at all quick stops/gasoline stations are overflowing. The exit ramps from I-10 into Columbus are closed and people are NOT allowed into the city from I-10.
Seems things just keep getting worse. Have they opened the roads going the opposite direction to evacuees? I know Florida usually does.
Trash cans are Bush's fault BUMP!
Oh boy....if there is any silver lining at all in this mess, it's to see just what needs to be done in our own states in the event of a castrophic event whether it's a storm, earthquake or a terrorist attack. Bottom line...we've got a lot of work to do....and a LOT of replanning to redo.......
I just heard that tanker trucks are going car to car giving every one 5 gallons of gas.
castrophic = catastrophic...(sigh)...
Schulenburg, TX on I-10 has opened a civic center there as a shelter due to the number of individuals stranded due to lack of gas/breakdowns. LOTS of people stalled on roadways and it must be happening in many places. Anyone else have perspective?
What the leadership realizes and the average American and the press don't is that it is virtually impossible to effectively evacuate a major city. Always has been always will be.
I've been thinking the same thing. Some day, even those people who've been caught in these tragic storms (and survived) may be grateful for what we're learning.
Let's stop the "Bush's Fault" comment.
Can I get an "Amen!" ?
Does that sound reasonable? Is 'gridlock' gridlock if a tanker can go "car to car"?
You are absolutely correct. This concept being able to move millions of people out of an urban area in a very short span of time has always been on the same level as urban myth.
NO! Not the trashcans! This is series!
Amen! It's not funny anymore. Overused.
THey have, but that's different from actually getting the word out to people stuck in their cars. There's also the issue that many interstates have concrete dividers that make it impossible to cross easily from one side to the other. If there were a grass median, it's much easier to cross.
Wonder if they said this in Houston...and I must admit there is no way to enforce it...but here in Tampa Bay area, EOC and Jeb Bush stress, "If you are not in an evac zone, stay put."
Our city is coded, Evac A,B,C,D,E and a good part of the city is under no evac zone... they issue evac orders based on threat, and if it is a multi-county evac, the evacs are also staggered by county.
I'm in an E evac zone and have never been ordered to evacuate. If I was, our family (parents, sister and her family, everyone except hubby who has to stay behind due to work at EOC) would leave using back roads, taking the long way around Tampa Bay, avoiding the bridges and interstates, in order to make our way inland to a large family vacation home where we could all congregate and sit out the storm.
This mass evacuation on Interstates doesn't seem to work too well.
On FoxNews this morning, they stated that the Guard did exactly that. They put different nozzles on the 5K tankers.
It's Bush's fault that you want an Amen.
I agree- it's wearing a bit thin.
Besides, it's become a meme from the Left, the Media, and their handmaidens- it's not like you'll never hear it again... :)
