Atta files destroyed by Pentagon
The Washington Times ^ | 9-22-25 | Bill Gertz

Pentagon lawyers during the Clinton administration ordered the destruction of intelligence reports that identified September 11 leader Mohamed Atta months before the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center, according to congressional testimony yesterday. A lawyer for two Pentagon whistleblowers also told the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday that the Defense Intelligence Agency last year destroyed files on the Army's computer data-mining program known as Able Danger to avoid disclosing the information.

Mark Levin talked about this last night on his show - he had spoken with Weldon a while back, and basically told him "make sure you have the documents, without the documents, this story will go nowhere". it seems as if every document on this was scrubbed - Levin seems to feel that this story - is over, because of that.

It was Shelton. He was briefed in Jan 01 and again in the spring of 01, per an interview with Shaffer. Shelton was not part of the Bush Admin, however and the briefing was not about AD, but AD was mentioned. I posted the info here (#48). Cambone was not in his current capacity, but was an advisor to Rummy. Weldon asked him about the briefing later and Cambone did not remember anything about AD.

in this case, the crime is worse then the coverup. the crime is that information was blocked and/or destroyed before 9-11, leading to 3000 dead americans in the street. the post 9-11 coverup is likely some mid level pentagon people who want to hide the fact that some of this data was obtained illegally. I strongly doubt Rumsfeld gave the order to purge it. However, if he did, I would join you in saying he should be held to account for that.

Or, as some posters above have speculated, that there was greater cooperation between al-Qaeda and China or al-Qaeda and US intelligence than previously admitted.

I'm getting flashbacks to all the anti-Clinton threads of 1998, 1999.

Able Danger seems like the precursor to the Total Information Awareness thing that Admiral Poindexter was leading. It may be that the government was doing things that they clearly should not have been doing. Operating outside the law. Accessing information information that they should not. Maybe not.

"You just want to forget it and move on. That's how, I think, the public views Clinton. The people know they made a big mistake,"

Yup. They did want to forget & move on. And then Bush's people put Clinton in the spotlight again by teaming him up with Bush's father and making him look like he has redeeming qualities and he's not such a bad guy after all.

That was a mistake. The republicans are doing a make-over on Bill. They should have left him heavily tarnished instead of polishing him up.

"Some things ...I just don't understand."
___________________________________________________________

Some things like...

DOJ letting Sandy Berger off with a wrist slap

Leaving our borders open and then calling brave minutemen Vigilantes

Allowing DOD to halt testimony in the biggest scandal of our country

Allowing the "gang of 14" to send 5 or 6 nominees for final votes, while the rest of the nominee's sit around collecting dust like Estrada and Pickering did.

Spending like drunken sailors with no regard to fiscal constraint.

Just to name a few. I have not made up my mind if I will sit out the 06 elections, or take a "throw the bums out"
approach. I'll say this. Millions of conservatives, like myself are not happy with what we are seeing.

"it would, in fact, be quite in line with trends for the majorities to decrease. (I personally don't think they will: I think the Dems are in complete meltdown)."

And I think they will decrease.
Yes, I think the dems are in a meltdown too, but too many of the republicans come across as wussies, and people aren't attracted to wusses.
Good time for someone from a third party to step up.

I disagree. Clinton's image has not gained one iota from all this globe-hopping. In fact, it may have been a brilliant political move, basically keeping him out of the actual political spotlight and shoving him into the humanitarian role. I know he still criticizes, but he seems a lot more muted since he's been "Tsunami-ing."

History shows third parties are non-factors in U.S. history. If one party disappears (the Federalists) they can replace one; but they have never overturned an existing party. The only place there is for a third party today is on the left-kook fringe.

So my prediction is on the table. The GOP will gain at least +1 seat in 06 in the Senate, and hold all its seats in the House.

Hence the "destroy all evidence" order when they believed AlGore wasn't going to be elected.

Interesting. I was saying at the time that Gore was contesting the election that it seemed like he was afraid to lose.

"If you heard the discussion yesterday, you found out the governments DOD requirements to keep documents on US citizens for only 90-days to find out if they are revelant. After 90-days they are suppose to be destroyed."

Chairman Specter questioned the DoD lawyer, after the lawyer explained the 90 day rule, for "US Persons."

Specter asked: "was Atta a US Person?"

"No"
