I do. I liked Lloyd Bridges lots. Too bad his sons turned out to be Hollyweirds.

Note that there appears to be an artifact on this image -- the first "dot" is where Rita initially formed, and that long straight line to the right should be ignored.

Here's what's weird about that. The forecast points are clearly SOUTH of the storm.

I'm not going to make a big deal out of it because I'm sure it will get fixed by the 5 am forecast, if not the one we'll get in about a half hour.

But I don't think this is a storm heading to Mexico. It's Katrina II, except that she'll be forced further west.

How far west is the big question.

This track may change! Who can figure where these storms will ultimately end up.

Speaking of Geraldo...he just had on Max Mayfield re: Rita...and he was desperately trying to get Mayfield to say that Rita would/could hit NO...

Mayfield did say it was possible that part of it could hit Louisiana...but that is about as far as he went.

All I can say is....if this isn't enough reason for Adm. Allen to tell Mayor Nagin to go away...and HE will let him know when it is safe for the citizens of NO to come back..I don't know what will.

Just got word (HurricaneCity.com message boards) that Phillipe has a closed eyewall, and will be upgraded to a CAT 1 hurricane at the 11P update.

No word on upgrading Rita at present. I'm scared to death of the BAMM model runs showing a Louisiana/Mississippi landfall though.

Brian Norcross at WFOR-TV/DT Miami will be on at 11 with a detailed analysis of the 11P update. They'll be streamed at http://dayport.wm.llnwd.net/dayport_0025_live.

Yes, and when (and if) she turns due west. If I were in south FL, I'd be watching carefully. I'm not draining my generator, yet.

Here's another worthwhile weather board, Knit:

Florida Hurricane

Just go to the upper right to the latest "X number comments" (right now, it's 157) for posts. You can scroll back to the previous pages at the bottom. There are meteorologists and expert amateurs posting there.

Amazing post there from Biloxi resident tonight:

Hello all, this might be a little of focus but I felt a need to post this.....

I drove hwy 90 today from the west end of Biloxi to the east end... I saw only one house that was standing and perhaps habitable on the front beach during the entire trip... 99% of everything within a block of the beach is gone, completely, and in many areas the devastation goes two full blocks... on the east end of Biloxi, Point Cadet, where I roamed as a gangster (youngster) is beyond recognition....

I have never seen anything like this in my life, then again neither has anyone else... and its like this on the entire front beach and even worse as you go west towards Long Beach, Pass and the Bay.... this is so much worse than Camille its unimageable... I never ever thought I'd live to see the day that I see a storm much worse than Camille... but believe me, there is no comparison relative to the damage inflicted by Katrina's surge...

I know for a fact it was at least 28 feet at my house based on debris marks on my Oak trees.... I had 5 feet of water in the second floor, and that's 33 feet above sea level... go figure....

we found our second story of our house entirely intact 1 block north of our lot, it had to travel about 400 yards thru trees and around gutted houses to get to its final resting place, the upper part of my fire place was still attached to the second floor and broke off when the second floor hit an oak tree which stopped it from going even further inland...

its incredible that it was not destroyed and I was able to salvage some clothes for me and some very valuable mementoes for my kids... my storm shutters were still installed on two of the four windows and the windows were not even broken.....

another storm right now would not do much more damage to the front beach in Biloxi as everything that could possibly be damaged is gone... however, any kind of tropical system to impact New Orleans could be really bad.... due to the weakened condition of the levees... lets hope this system does not affect NO at all.... then again lets hope it does not affect anyone..

============================

Fearsome .. ungodly fearsome and terrifying, the power of nature. God bless all in the path of these stormS.
