Woman in power is powerless when it comes to meeting men
http://www.mcall.com/ ^ | September 17, 2005 | Amy Alkon

Dear Amy: I'd like to be in a relationship again, but I never even get asked out (unless you count frisky 85-year-olds and drunks at the corner bar). I'm a 32-year-old woman who's happy, sociable, and attractive. (I paid for college by modeling and continue to take care of myself.) I'm second-in-command at a big company, financially secure, and own a beautiful home. How can I meet men in general, and more specifically, men I'd actually want to date?

Deluxe Chopped Liver

Dear Deluxe: To scare away vampires, it takes garlic and crosses, which make ugly bulges in sleek, satin evening bags. Luckily, all you have to do to scare away men is pull out a business card that says ''senior vice president.''

''Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac,'' said Henry Kissinger. Sure it is — unless you're a woman. Research by Stephanie L. Brown and Brian P. Lewis, published in Evolution and Human Behavior (Nov. '04), seems to confirm what many lonely women at the top already know: When guys go for the woman in the boardroom, it isn't the woman running the meeting but the secretary who wheeled in the coffee and croissants before it started.

Sure, plenty of men will scamper up the corporate ladder for a one-night stand. But, according to Brown and Lewis' study, men looking for dates or relationships tend to prefer their subordinates to their colleagues or bosses. The researchers hypothesize that men evolved to want women they can control as a means of guarding against ''parental uncertainty'' — unwittingly raising kids fathered by the Neanderthal next door as their own. Brown and Lewis think this may also explain why men are suckers for ''behavioral expressions of vulnerability'' — women who act like they might not be able to make it across the street

... AND WHO WILL PUT UP WITH their baggage

Spot on, mate, spot on! You've no idea how many women are suffering from a quite extraordinary case of LIHOM (Legend In Her Own Mind) syndrome, and believe that they are God's gift to the Male species. It would be funny in a bizarre sort of way if it were not so sadly depressing at the same time. But yet, WE males are the problem! If I had a dime for every time I listened to a female discussing the breakup of her last relationship and was telling her friends: "Well, we MIGHT be able to get back together someday, but he has to change."

Sometimes I literally had to turn away and leave the room quickly before they realized that the muffled choking sounds I was attempting so mightily to suppress was in actuality Incredulous Laughter! And they totally believed that there was NOTHING wrong with such a belief!

Agreed. Lol. At the risk of sounding like I am bragging, I should also mention that I learned how to work on cars by teaching Myself the basics when I had just turned eighteen and before I left for the military. Got some good books, some decent tools, and went from one of those don't-know-how-to-change-the-oil mates to being a fair hand with a wrench. Quite a difference for a 'nerd' fresh out of high school beginning to work on cars, lol. The only really difficult thing about learning that is now My entire family comes to Me for their automotive concerns and difficulties. *wince*

This thread is still running?

Well look at the subject matter

And its typical of a message board
Check out the example below LOL

How many list/message board/forum members does it takes to change a light bulb?

One to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

Fourteen to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

Seven to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

Seven more to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

Five to flame the spell checkers.

Three to correct spelling/grammar flames.

Six to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another six to condemn those six as stupid.

Fifteen to claim experience in the lighting industry and give the correct spelling.

Nineteen to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb (or light bulb) forum.

Eleven to defend the posting to the group saying that we all use light bulbs and there fore the posts are relevant to this group.

Thirty six to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

Seven to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

Four to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL.

Three to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

Thirteen to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

Five to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

Four to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

Thirteen to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

Three to tell a funny story about their show dog and a light bulb.

Eight to prove light bulbs burning out is a conspiracy

Three to argue that a light bulb was the root cause of the WCT towers' collapse

Five to say that another board was discussing the issue of light bulbs, and they they had other vague ideas about what to do with light bulbs.

Two who say instructions about light bulbs are just another example of the creeping imperialism of the UN.

Eight who post about ways to prep for a light bulb shortage, including one who has an idea on how to make light bulbs at home after a nuclear attack.

One to light the candle.. cause we_are_prepared and ready for the end of the world as we know it.

Four to suggest new light bulb smilies.

Three to suggest that problems with light bulbs actually started during the Clinton administration, with one saying this is a long term problem that began when Roosevelt introduced the New Deal

One to point out that light bulbs never burned out this quickly before the chemtrails started.

Three to attempt to prove that chemtrails don't exist.

Two to post how the main stream media has squashed any news of the topic from getting through to the sheeple

and..

One lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Was John Kerry a woman? Let's not just put the onus on women. I know plenty of men who are looking for women with money, especially the lurches looking for widows with nice bank accounts.

LOL Oh thank you GRAND POO-BAA of all that is correct, that is such a relief to me!

Please allow me in my oh so simple way compared to your superior puffed up knowledge to suggest a solution as poor as it may be to your excellancy..... Don't bother to reply to my posts and you don't have to worry about your "restraint"

Bye, Bye

Many people did not have role models in their life for how a biblical, Christ-centered marriage should resemble. As men and women mature in their spiritual walk with Jesus Christ and knowledge of His word they will better understand their roles. We were created each with a special purpose and none of us were created to be lone rangers. Whether male or female as we learn the will of God, we understand that He desires us to be selfless, have a spirit of humilty, and loving. We learn to submit to one another. This only happens when the Holy Spirit is working in and through us.

News flash: Women look for security from a man. Its a positive characteristic. Security includes the monetary means by which he can provide for her.

If you are indeed basing your 'security' on mere monetary means by which 'he can provide for (you)', then I am deeply saddened to inform you that you are going to be a very, very disappointed female in years to come.

Security can be felt when you can handle any situation that the universe throws at you and not only roll with the punches but take the ball and run with it. My now gone S.O. appreciated that most, but not only did she admire how effectively I managed to do that, she loved that I could also take care of Myself in an altercation and told Me more than once that she felt safer with Me than if she had a Rottweiler on a leash with her. I was still a simple Tech back then, but I was also a belted Martial Artist, a Bodybuilder, and a Biker. Still got the scoot; '74 Sportster with a six inch overstock front end and dual stacked headlights.

Blokes with the gold watches and expensive cars I just found incredibly amusing, and on ANY match-up they knew they came up on the losing side. Sometimes all I would have to do was simply smile in their general direction and they suddenly seemed to have important business elsewhere. *grin*

your tagline (Never underestimate the power of a fuzzy friend!)

Now, is that like in fuzzy math?
or just ill-defined like fuzzy lines?
or like impressionistic art?
or people with soft silky hair?
or?

Lol. Never heard THAT one before, mate. I do remember an old friend whose girlfriend deliberately got herself pregnant from him one night when he was extremely intoxicated. I still wince when I visualize him standing in court attempting to explain that he should not be paying for child support because he had never had any intention of fathering children with the girl, and she had ignored his wishes. Needless to say, the judge did not care and the support was ordered. He has never seen the child and to this day he swears she did it deliberately.

If I had a dime for every time I listened to a female discussing the breakup of her last relationship and was telling her friends: "Well, we MIGHT be able to get back together someday, but he has to change."

Relationships are subject to a "dwindling spiral" phenomenon. Side A decides that Side B is not delivering what A wants, so A decides to withhold doing so much for B. B notices and retaliates by reducing what B delivers to A. Then both sides are increasingly unsatisfied until one or the other has had enough

Yes, older muscle cars are unbelievable.

I once had a 1970 olds with a 455 four-barrel. an ugly car, but it would do 0-60 in nothing flat.

If the sexes were reversed, she would have charged him with rape if he inseminated her while she was too drunk to consent

Too true. But it still kills Me that it is always us males that 'have to change'. Just the incredible unconcious conceit of those females just KNOWING that there is NOTHING wrong with THEM becomes more and more hilarious to Me as the years go by, lol!

While this is a fairly typical response from you, it's as fascinating as a train wreck that you don't see how petty, petulant, and juvenile your comments are.

I really don't need to add anything to what ronin has already said, except you *really* need to consider what he's said.
