Racial differences of opinion
Here's an uncomfortable subject: Why do black Americans see some issues so totally differently from the way nonblack Americans see them?
The obvious examples before us are the polls that show large majorities of blacks saying that the Bush administration slowed relief to Katrina victims because so many of them were black, and large majorities of whites saying just the opposite. (Pause for factual note: Most Katrina victims, of course, were white: Orleans Parish has a black majority, but the other Louisiana parishes and the Mississippi and Alabama counties hit by Katrina have white majorities.) Here are results from a USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll conducted September 8 to 11.
Just your best guess, do you think one reason the federal government was slow in rescuing these people was because many of them were black, or was that not a reason?
(snip)---((table did not reproduce well))
I am reminded of the polls taken immediately after O.J. Simpson's criminal trial, which showed that a large majority of blacks thought he was not guilty and a larger majority of whites thought he was guilty. At the time, I wondered whether black respondents really believed he had not killed his wife or whether they were just expressing something in the nature of solidarity with him. Looking at results like these, I wonder something similar: Aren't these black respondents just expressing their dislike or even hatred for George W. Bush, rather than embracing the absurd position that the federal government would move slowly to rescue people because many of themmany, not most, as Gallup was careful to askwere black?
I sent you one email. begging? Okay. I'll behave myself. Thankyou for being fair.
Ok, begging was wrong word. How about throwing a hissy fit? That's probably a better term.
Jim Robinson appears to have taken notice. The body count is starting to add up, isn't it? The sad part is that they really do think they are simply being conservative....they think being racist equals being conservative and that they are battling political correctness....they think they are being noble in the cause against political correctness and that is simultaneously sad and scary.
Kicking you off FR is the equivalent of shooting you? You have got to get out more.
the fact is.....large numbers of poor, urban blacks use many excuses (natural or man-made disaster, court verdicts etc) to burn, loot, kill, and "get back at society"
will anybody dispute the above facts???
am i a racist for stating the above fact???
the rest of this is all talk, justification, and blame....
let's do something about that fact and stop all the babble...
Since I'm such a blithe, why don't you post both my emails to Amdin Moderator... Since making look like a you're making me look for some reason needed, post the emails so all can see my "hissy fit".
Awwwww.. Forget it...
Despite the fact that there exists a Large & Growing "Black & Hispanic Middle Class;" There is a (Mostly Black) "Underclass," who Just Can't seem to Prosper in our society.
We ALL "Feel bad" for these folks.
Despite Tens of Billions of Dollars in Aid, They Just Cannot become "Self-sufficient!!"
It would appear that "the Problem" is Sociologic---NOT Economic!
Doc
Very well said.
The point is that there are those of us who work day in and day out to do something about that. Additionally, you point out the obvious, but you at least are acknowledging that all of us aren't in that boat -- contrary to what some people here have been saying.
And none of us who are black and conservative are justifying or blaming anyone; however, we are not going to sit around and be forced to endure someone insisting that all blacks are reflected by the actions of a number of idiots on television.
No, Mr. King (mhking) does not confine himself to just speaking out on FR; he has been on national television a number of times espousing conservative causes.
thank you for your kind response mhking (who i have long admired)....
i think the obvious is the only thing anybody needs to respond to....
of course all blacks are not reflected by those who act out....just as all whites aren't pussified enemies of america because thats all we see on television (exaggeration of course, but you get my point.)
i believe this thread is an accurate depiction of public opinion in the right wing of america....we must all beware of falsehood and blindness and prejudice....let us judge based on what is presented to us....
there are far too few honest men in public life in this country....
dont let the enlightened black americans like yourself and rdb3 (sp?) be defeated or discouraged in your quest for a better america....fight the good fight and remember who the true enemy is....
bagster
p.s. you are GREAT on t.v.!!!!!!
Wonderful post.
Great post.
I totally agree and I am a white Female.
Why do so many people assume that the blacks being surveyed are motivated primarily by a desire to answer poll questions honestly?
I think it is more likely that many interviewees primarily consider which answers best push the white guilt/fear button, that in turn might yield benefits for blacks.
thank you
