PALESTINIANS FIRE MORTARS INTO ISRAEL TEL AVIV [MENL] -- For the first time, Palestinian gunners have succeeded in firing mortars into Israel.
Israeli military sources said Palestinian insurgents have managed to fire mortars from the eastern and northern Gaza Strip into Israel. So far, there have not been injuries in Israel.
"The fire represents the success of Palestinians to reach the edge of the Gaza Strip," a military source said. "It will provide the terrorists with a much greater edge."
Palestinian insurgency groups have developed several models of mortars. They include those of 60 mm, 81 mm and 120 mm mortars as well as launching tubes.

I certainly hope you are right and that this is a plan coming together.

Made by IAI, that's a concern in the second generation version from General Dynamics, which we'll export to Pakistan. For the border with India, not Afghanistan.
They will anyway.
All the White House will demand is one hour of quiet. Or ten minutes.
Hold it right there. No "until" involved. Period, full stop.
Well, it could be that Sharon will wait until Gaza becomes officially Palestine, and Palestine gets recognized as a nation. Then "gunners" firing across the border is an "act of war" at which point Israel can respond by invading and taking out the bad guys under all known international treaties. And once and for all end this thing.
That's years, likely decades off. Sharon has indicated that actions will be harsher than in the past. I'm skeptical, there's no upside to retaking that land.
We'll see.....
Sounds like the systems we have in Iraq. Its a radar system that tracks the incoming rounds, calculates where the round will hit and more importantly, where the round was fired from. All before the round lands. Very impressive.
On a much smaller scale. Israel can't destroy the building they're launching from after all, only the mortar crew.
Hey Condi--what about it?
Just leave special mortar rounds that look normal and that detonate after being moved for 10 minutes, them in there nests.
leave special boxes of AK 47 ammo that explode in the guns for the looters
I don't necessarily disagree with the move, but I'd lay it on the line. If this doesn't stop immediately, the Palestinians will lose GAZA forever! This is a make or break for the Palestinians if they truly want self-rule, their own nation and to live in peace.
Like we don't know the answer to this...
Every time I see one of these articles, I hope to see another posted within a few minutes: "Israelis Rain Artillery Fire on Terrorists"
I can hope.
Looks like the concession of Gaza has worked out well.
For the Palestinian terrorists that is.
So if Israel blows these Palestinians into bits, there wont
be any repercussions from the "world community" our communist laden State Dept. wont object? In a perfect
world I would agree with your "keep your enemies close so you wont have to expend too much energy when the time arrives to kill them" thought process, but alas last time
I checked the world is far from perfect. I favor the "wall the palestinans off and let them live in poverty and squalor until the time to kill them arrives" tactic.
Palestinians already have a country its called Jordan
even Jordan wont let them in because they realize
the Palis are human garbage, viscious killers who will
even stab their own kind in the back.
I want to see Sharon's plan with this... he's suppose to be "the man"...
Can't let them do that forever.
Agreed. That is why I added that the IDF can now, at its leisure, choose one or more Palestinian targets for destruction.
I've heard the IDF has developed an anti-mortar capability that hits a target within 30 seconds, with minimal collateral damage. My guess, we're about to find out.
With high-tech counter-battery sensor systems, you can make lobbing mortar shells a highly risky affair.
The "minimal collateral damage" issue, however, will depend solely on where the mortars are fired from. Jihadis have no qualms about hiding in the middle of civilians.
However, after a few counter-battery responses, the jihadis will be shot on sight by locals who want no part of Israeli counter-battery fire falling on their back yard.
