Hurricane Ophelia continues to churn off the off the coast of the Carolinas with a track that has confounded computer models and meteorologists for days. Hurricane watches are issued for much of the SC and NC coastline. Northern GA and southern VA coastal areas are currently within the three day cone of uncertainty. Check local NWS service for updates.

Our pool is too small to put the furniture into :)
I keep the basic needs for power outages on hand all the time - because we live in the middle of nowhere. I'm very happy they are not making dire predictions, some wind and ain, for this area, because I really do need to go grocery shopping this evening - I need something for dinner!!!!
That's the truth! I had to clean up drippy ice cream! NEVER AGAIN.
And great family tradition it is!!!!
Electricity was about the only thing we did NOT lose during Isabel. Phones went out, cable went out - but the lights stayed on. Of course you folks on that side of the Bay got hit a heck of a lot harder than we did.
We were lucky for Norfolk during Isabel. Only lost power for 27 hours. The power came back on about 15 minutes after we threw everything in the refrigerator away. The only damage I had was a torn boat cover.
We were lucky.
A torn boat cover, and some trashed food - I agree with you, you were lucky.
Late that night we could hear the metal roof coming off the barn - but there wasn't a danged thing to about it at that point. And it actually sounded worse than what it really was when we inspected it in the morning. Several sheets had peeled back, but had not come off altogether and so we were able to fix it without hassle or money. We were also very lucky.
My parents were luckier. They live in Newport, NC, about 50 miles west of where the eye came ashore. All they had was a trashed yard. They didn't even lose power.
And take your Wellingtons and buckets for seashell collecting! :)
good one..I will remember that,thanks!
Cumberland County has closed all schools tomorrow in anticipation of the winds and rain.
My daughter and son-in-law, and I -- have been deliberating whether or not to name our newgranddaughter -- not yet born -- Ophelia. The storm and my daughter's labor are following similar paths -- coming on, stalling, backing off; repeat pattern. I've wifed a number of births; but I'm telling ya, cf_river_rat... this one is just about wearing me out!!

My stepdaughter just did that same thing, from July on! Maddening!
I've resigned myself to it. I ususally just make the most of it. :)
PS - Don't forget: There's another important birthday on 9/17!
You're spot on, AGAIN!
Did you get that battery operated TV yet?
BTW, I bought a battery operated radio that gets TV channels for $13 at Kerr Drugs!
No, I have not. I still might, since I am now trying to prepare for ice storms and the subsequent electricity loss.
