St. Bernard Parish officials say that 32 of the home's roughly 60 residents died on Aug. 29, more than a week ago.

Update 9-11-11
**********
"..And finally, on the question I raised a few days ago about Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussards tearful story about his emergency managers mother drowning in a St. Bernard nursing home, I think the evidence shows pretty clearly that Broussard was embellishing the story. Readers helpfully pointed me to the following news accounts:
New York Times: In nursing home, a fight lost to rising waters.
Newsday: Desperately seeking survivors.
MSNBC: This anger comes from watching death.
From the MSNBC item:
The man he was talking about is Thomas Rodrigue, who told Dateline that his 92-year-old mother was one of 32 elderly people found dead at the St. Ritas nursing home.

MSNBC Quote:
"..The man he was talking about is Thomas Rodrigue, who told Dateline that his 92-year-old mother was one of 32 elderly people found dead at the St. Ritas nursing home..."
***********
But the 32 people who died at St. Ritas nursing home didnt die on Friday; they died earlier in the week, when the floodwaters first inundated the low-lying facility. Rather than being attributable to the federal authorities slow response (which was pretty much the point of Broussards version of the story), the death of those senior citizens was more the fault of local authorities (who failed to evacuate them) than of federal officials (who wouldnt have been there in time to rescue them under the best of circumstances).
So, assuming the MSNBC story is accurate, Broussards story was at least significantly embellished. The tear-jerking account of the repeated calls to momma were fictional (or at least were displaced from their actual time of occurrence, which would have to have been before or during the storm, not during the several days afterward when FEMA was MIA). And if that part was fiction, it would mean that Broussard, for all the apparent sincerity in his emotional on-air breakdown, was willing to lie in order to make his story work better as political theater, which in turn makes it harder for me to credit the rest of the slow-FEMA-response anecdotes he described .."
Placing the blame is becoming an art form--a lot of the liberals, but also for some conservatives too.

Wonder if life insurance came into play. Hate to even think that, but with the lies flying it makes me suspicious.
It's starting to look like there were a lot of people who were dishonest.
The Democrats are evil and desperate and they know there are enough uneducated people watching T.V. that they can say and do anything. They also know the MSM will not challenge them on their lies. America is in dire straights between an activist judicial system, and evil Democrat Party,a corrupt MSM and a Republican Party that fails to challenge their lies.
Good moral people had better arm themselves to the hilt and prepare to fight we in the US are in the process of having our country overthrown from within!
And we hope that catching them at it will as well. So, Timmy Russert and Don Imus, you idiots, it is obvious that the blinding hatred has reached the top.

I saw a story on ABC news a couple of days ago about this. The county coroner told the reporter how he showed up with two buses to evacuate the nursing home on Saturday (27) or sunday (28) to evacuate all of the people there. The manager said that she had permission from the families of the patients to keep them there because they could ride out the storm just like previous ones. The coroner told the manager that he could take the people then, but not guarantee being able tocome back. The coroner said that the manager called him monday morning saying the place was flooding, but by then the hurricane was in full force and he was unable to return from whereever he had evacuated to. The manager was one of those who drowned.
The MSM is doing whatever it can to deflect attention from the criminal actions of Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco. The pride of these two in not accepting federal aid or advice when offered the Friday before the hurricane ultimately killed many people.
DEMOCRATS' PRIDE, PEOPLE DIED!
This must be the most successful humanitarian rescue effort in history. This nonsense is like the 6 minutes the president kept reading to children when first informed of the WTC attacks. A manufactured bit of inconsequential nonsense. And conservatives need to go after them for it.
It appears that the "Calvary" was there and on the job, Broussard.
Will some republican in high power PLEASE get up and call out the democrat left wing for being the irresponsible, opportunistic, and hate mongering liars they are.
I do agree with you. Politicians are milking this for all it's worth. I think the rescue operation is going to be much more successful than anyone ever imagined. Let's learn what went right and what went wrong. There's too much bickering.

Yep, listen to Hannity for ten minutes then switch to Randi Rhodes for five (about all one can take); it's like Junior High School kids with a feud...loud, ugly and illogically partisan with every mis-informed breath.
They did explain why it happened, it was Bush's fault. That is the standard line and they are running with it along with their press whores.
I know you're sincere but again I say not good enough. The president did nothing wrong and is being called a racist murderer. You don't allow crazy charges like that to have legs. You cut the legs out from under them. Forcefully.
That's what I meant. We don't have to resort to liberal-type tactics or behavior to make our points or to do something about the problem without the name calling and constant finger-pointing. I like those guys that show up to counteract the Code Pink people (one of the liberal groups that I really just don't like).
Gross--cutting legs:) Yes, you do, but you do in a way that makes them look bad and you look good. The Savior was a complete master at it--he was always in control while the Pharisees and Saduccees (sp) always looked like raving lunatics.
