police officers began confiscating weapons, including legally registered firearms, from civilians in preparation for a mass forced evacuation of the residents still living here.

If they are still in NO then they are law breakers, lawbreakers should not be armed.

Maybe this is the reasoning? And by taking their guns they are preparing to forcibly evacuate them (with no fear of being shot) and also maybe if their guns are gone they won't feel safe so they will leave?

Bravo Sierra.

There was a good 20% of the city not flooded...and now 40% is dry ground. If a citizen is at his/her house or property, if they are not in the flood waters, and if they are well provisioned and can take care of themselves, then they have every right to protect their property from the criminals who are there in the city and should be left alone.

That does not make them a criminal.

"If they are still in NO then they are law breaker"

In America, one is considered innocent until proven guilty. Just having Mike darancette arbitrarily declare them to be criminals is not enough to take away their 2nd Amendment rights.

But of course you knew that...

What law are they breaking? Please cite the applicable portion of the U.S. or Louisiana code.

I thought the govenor specifically declined to sign off on mandatory/forced evacuations in spite of the mayor wanting them. I'm not sure what law you're accusing them of breaking.

There are sections of the city that were never flooded, had little storm damage, and have running water and generators for power.

Imagine you are in your house, with food, water, power. Imagine though that the neighborhoods that surround yours are all without power and are under water.

Now imagine what you would do if the police came to YOUR house and took your guns and forced you to leave.

The government has every right to refuse to rescue people who violate a "mandatory evacuation". But they shouldn't be allowed to remove you from your house without a warrant for your arrest. That's a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT.
