"An Awful Howling" -- animals dying in New Orleans
Fox News | 9/8/05

Posted on 09/08/2005 2:19:14 PM PDT by pabianice

A Fox reporter in NO was asked on air what it was like now in New Orleans. She replied that aside from the horrible stink from sewage the air is full of the mournful cries of cats and dogs dying of thirst, hunger, and injuries as they stand on roof tops and drag themselves along the roadways. They don't know why they have been left to die. So sad.

Please... also give to animal rescue organizations! Thanks.

Why isn't Pamela Anderson out there trying to save them? She already has Hepatitis, anyway...

YEAH... and her own personal floatation devices!

War and natural disasters are both obviously "Hell". My father told me of having to march past injured Italian girls obviously bleeding profusely on his way into battle at "leghorn" never breaking cadence. Breaks your heart to think of such things but such is the world we live in when trajedy strikes.

Would you risk your life to save this?

I can't handle this. I could never, ever leave my pets behind. The thought of it makes me sick.

I heard Glenn Beck this morning tell a story about a little girl who was crying not to leave her cat behind as the family was evacuating and Katrina was hitting them. The father went back for the cat and on the phone, the family could hear the winds tearing up their house as the father looked for the cat.

Needless to say, neither the cat nor the father has been seen since.

It's a matter of priority.

It may sound stupid, but I couldn't leave my German Shepard behind. Period.

No way does that sound stupid. I feel the same way about my GS mix. She's a creature that would give her life to save mine. Loyalty goes both ways. It would be a cold day in hell before I left my dogs behind.

We're not talking wild animals we're talking pets. Many have never NOT relied on humans for food and water.

And as far as drinking the flood waters, they probably don't smell right to the animals. They probably wouldn't smell right to you, so I bet you wouldn't drink it either.

She's ten years old. We were concerned about it and the vet said her gums were ok for her age. The wife brushes her teeth once a month at her own risk. The dog still acts like a three month old puppy after all these years.

My dog is my best friend as well. No way I could ever leave him. I'd have packed up my dog and my survival gear have would have been gone DAYS before Katrina hit.

LSU's Veterinary school is going WAY above and beyond - they can take your donation online.

Hurricane Katrina victim Sondra Sercovich from Mandeville, Louisiana, waits in line for a food stamp application, and shows off her new furry friend 'Peanut', a 4-week old baby squirrel she rescued after the hurricane. The animal lover who has 11 cats, 12 tortoises, three dogs, two chameleons, and five children, has been keeping the squirrel warm on her chest, and will be intregrating the squirrel into the family.

" The authorities should not waste a second rescuing pets until all the people were safe."

Well a lot of these people decided to stay, dooming their animals to the fate we are reading about. I see nothing wrong with dispatching a few rescue crews to save these poor critters. The cost is minimal compared to the BILLIONS it has and will cost for the rescue, relocation and general care of these upstanding contributors to society. If they start giving cats and dogs $2,000 debit cards then you might have something worthy to bitch about.

Timber turns 7 on the 9/18...I've never had a dog with a more compatible personality. A perfect gentleman around company, a veritable wolf when he perceives a threat and a puppy at playtime.

You're gal looks pretty good for 10. Give her a few pats for me!

Evacuees from Slidell, La., Valerie Bennett, left, and her husband Lorne Bennett, who is being pushed by an unidentified hospital worker, hug their dogs Oreo and Lady as they are reunited with their pets at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Bennett is a liver transplant patient and had to be quickly evacuated before the storm.

There are a lot of VERY unnatural poisons in that water, that would be lethal to animals if consumed in any significant quantities.

I agree - our German Shepherd is our baby and so are our three birds and our cat. We are responsible for them and would NEVER leave them behind. We love our pets :)

This is what Peta is 'supposingly' doing---But I don't trust them. I think they get the pets and kill them--then throw them in dumpsters.

peta update
