Interesting considering they mandatory evacuation from areas that were NOT flooded and are not seriously damages.

I think the coruption in LA is alive and well.

The are going to try MASSIVE eminent domanin grabs.

I bet they "officials" will buldoze homes which are salvagable to induce people to leave.

People who had homes for decades will come back to an empty lot with no place to live and only survival option as selling the land.

Too bad New Orleans has a corrupt governor to protect them from a corrupt mayor.

(a coorupt governor who brought in a fema democrat in order to prevent a court order forcing a federal take over.)

Good post.

They had all of the people who needed help in one spot instead of scattered about which would have made it impossible for relief to get to the people who needed it.

The state government claims that they didn't want the desperate people who were all assembled in that one location to have food or water so as to convince everyone to evacuate out of the city where they would surely not have found a way to get any relief. At the same time they refused relief for the people at the Super dome while forbidding them from leaving that hell hole.

The fact that these people have not been arrested and actually remain in positions of power is the most tragic and demoralizing thing of all.

Deliberatly...no...Ignorantly and naively, yes...

We would be just as bad as those screaming "It's Bush's fault" if we start screaming that this was a conspiracy of some sort or another.

Honestly, there is a FR thread asking if Blanco intentionally wished to commit genocide...Come on, let's not confuse total incompetence with genocide or an intentional act to put people in peril for political gain.

Maybe I'm naive, but that would take a very cold hearted and evil person to follow through on....

We are ALL mistaken!! We are holding New Orleans to the standards that we expect in our moderately well run, moderately honest (OK, not you in Detroit) cities.

New Orleans is the most corrupt city in our country. Mexicans and Nigerians come to New Orleans to learn the fine points of filth, corruption and dishonesty.

The black, dem city politicians get a piece of everything and the city police and employees help collect/enforce. Haven't you ever been involved in running a convention/meeting in NO. The Red Cross wasn't stopped; they simply didn't recognize or understand how to respond to demands for bribes, probably called "transit fees," "Parish zonning or use fees," or some other term with a municple sound and payable in cash.

The NO publec sector thieves have been questioned for many years with very few convictions. Any charge that involves competency rather than theft will be a victory for these guys. With billions coming in, their revenue streams look OK for many years.

As the truth trickles out of N.O.; the Demrats raise their level of villifing rhetoric. At the rate and level they are screaming, they should soon be 'white noise'. . .

As for the decision making in LA; what could surprise us when incompetant, corrupt Demrat leaders are in charge.

From even before the beginning of this crisis Blanco has handled everything as a politically calculated decision. Her (and the Mayor's) hesitancy to evacuate the city immediately was based on legalities, money and a memory of what happened last year when Ivan just missed the city.

Her deliberate dereliction to deploy her own National Guard as a "law enforcement" authority "within" the city was a political decision because she didn't want to be responsible for any direct confrontations that might result in the shooting of "poor, black people" by her Guard. Heck, I don't even see how she could've done this after her own Attorney General practically justified the looting on national TV.

From her failure to seek federal assistance before the storm...and her refusal after, she just didn't want to turn over control to a Republican administration that might make her look incompetent. Not to mention the dirty little secrets that might be exposed if the feds had expanded authority within New Orleans.

Agree with you 100%. We seem to live in a "clueless" society. First noticed at Wal-Mart, Comp-USA and our government. I've actually had workers in all 3 places tell me, "I don't have a clue." And they were right.

I've been barking about this all day. We don't need commissions, we need prosecutors. These death mongers need to be sitting in a cell, not continuing to obstruct the rescue and recovery effort.

I guess we now know why the police kept driving by and never giving the people on the bridge anything to drink. This was all documented on Fox, Smith and Rivera pleading for someone to bring some water.

It's a conspiracy. Blanco just wanted the animals, i mean the people to leave New Orleans and not come back ever. Nagin was not informed of this because he's too incompetent to run anything. He'll just cry in his hotel corner. LoL

The Red Cross is a fund RAISING organization. They only spend their cash when absolutely required to keep the donations coming in.

Dems are siding with those who want to destroy America in the War on Terrorism...what's to say they wouldn't do their little part to crash down the system?

Many of them really believe we shouldn't be the only Superpower...that we are too powerful.

They also said last year that we should be paying $3-4 dollars a gallon for gas like they do in Europe. Who's to say that they wouldn't do their little parts to bring down the gas system, like thwarting new refineries and new oilwells?

The Houston Chronicle has an excellent article outlining the failures of Local New Orlean's and Louisiana politicians during Hurricane Katrina. It even includes a picture of the unused buses. You may find the article here: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/special/05/katrina/3344347

MIDI - WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER HERO

We have it all planned...the fires we'll fan
Press pals will blame it all on Bush
It is all laid out...just watch how it plays out
From all directions we will push

Bobby will launch a blow...sit back and watch the show...now
We'll stab George in the back and claim that he hates blacks
We will scream that he's a zero...we will stop Salvation Army trucks
They will not get their supplies to the Superdome

Partisan warfare...do you think we care
Without our power we feel dead
This is a battle...and his cage we'll rattle
Psychotic hatred must be fed

Howard will give his scream...he's whacked-out as it seems...yeah
Hillary, wicked witch, will prove that she's a b*tch
All together now -- we will scream that he's a zero...we will stop Salvation Army trucks
They will not get their supplies to the Superdome

Our power was taken away...in 1994
We don't like the way things have gone since then
You d*mn neo-cons, you will see what's in store

We will scream that he's a zero...we will stop Salvation Army trucks
They will not get their supplies to the Superdome

We will scream that he's a zero...we will stop Salvation Army trucks
They will not get their supplies to the Superdome

Well now this kinda fits with FEMA not being notified of the situation at the Convention Center..looks like LA didn't want these people getting food and water there either..what wee they supposed to do, evacuate themslves on foot?

Besides the 500 buses that were not utilized, how many port a pottis were available in NO and were not used? Articles prior to the hurricane indicated everyone knew if NO flooded the sewers would back up and the toilets at the SD would not work..I wonder why they weren't trucked into the SD before the storm and after?

I believe I saw that a few years back they sheltered some of the "mere" citizens from a hurricane in the Superdome and it got trashed. Couldn't have that again...

Ok everyone please do not take this as a way for me to think Nagin is off the hook, either way he is guilty in my book.

That being said are we sure that all these decisions about not enforcing a mandatory evac for NO in the begining was Nagins idea... We have been witness over the days since Katrina came through of Nagin trying to do certain things within the city & Blanco shooting him down in public.

So the question I think that also needs to be asked & explored is this..., Did Blanco tell Nagin not to do the evac in the first place & then tell him to order it only after President Bush called her telling her to tell nagin to do so. Did she do/set things in motion beforehand to be able to lay blame elsewhere (on Nagin) if things went bad.

Like I said I'm not excusing Nagin one bit cause to me keeping ppl alive is more important then anything else, including my job. All I am saying is that Blanco has shown herself to be an extreme control freak & given that fact there may be much more that happened before Katrina came ashore then we know that could make this even more sickening then one would want to believe it could be.
