Deliberatly...no...Ignorantly and naively, yes...

We would be just as bad as those screaming "It's Bush's fault" if we start screaming that this was a conspiracy of some sort or another.

Honestly, there is a FR thread asking if Blanco intentionally wished to commit genocide...Come on, let's not confuse total incompetence with genocide or an intentional act to put people in peril for political gain.

Maybe I'm naive, but that would take a very cold hearted and evil person to follow through on....

i agree with you that i don't think that it raise to the level of criminal neglignece or a pre planned act to do this.... it would take an incredible cold hearted person to do that...

But... we have had those people in the world..... Jeff Dahlmer...Stalin,,,, etc

They are out there but I dont think blanco is one of them

No, deliberately.

THINK! What was their motive? Why did they stop the Red Cross? Why didn't they let the aid trucks through? We don't have to guess, we know, they told us. They stopped the aid from going through because if conditions in the Superdome and the Convention Center improved, more people might be tempted to go there... and fewer would be inclined to leave. They explicitly wanted to prevent conditions from improving. That is DELIBERATELY MAKING THINGS WORSE.

I don't think Blanco intentionally wished to commit genocide. I do think she (or those under her) deliberately induced suffering at the Superdome and the Convention Center in order to compel people to leave. Whether they knew in advance that this would cause death (rather than merely mass suffering) is questionable, and depends on their competence. But don't blame the simple decision to block the Red Cross on incompetence. It was a rational, intelligent decision... provided their goal was to make the Superdome and Convention Center miserable.

I do seriously believe that Blaco concerns were centered about her maintining her authority as governor of the state of LA rather than actual help to the people

The disaster relief command was "AN ISSUE" she needed to claim. The issue of actual relieve was irrelevant to her. In her eyes as a democrat, that would sort itself out and she could spin anything to her advantage.

Look now as they try to evacuate people from the non-flood areas, they are going to try and "starve people out" too.
The military says they will not do that, Nagin wants people out by force, Blaco wants people out by denial of help.

There were deliberate and contumacious steps taken by the Governor to maintain her authority. She acted with thought as if she were hearding cattle.

One other thing I need to point out.

I am not a hysteric. On the contrary, I pride myself on being coldly rational. I almost never question my opponents' motives. That's a Democrat thing... hang out on a Democratic message board for awhile and you'll quickly discover that they don't merely believe that their opponents are wrong, misguided, or incompetent, they believe their opponents are evil.

I don't do that. Patrick Leahy, Charles Schumer, Robert Byrd, Nancy Pelosi, these are all people I despise, but I never for a minute question their good intentions. I'm sure that every one of them firmly believes that their policies would be best for America. They're wrong, of course, hopelessly and utterly and pathetically wrong, but they still are doing what they think is right.

But in this case, I don't need to question Blanco's motives, because she's made them crystal clear. The Red Cross was kept away because they were bringing food and water to the hungry and thirsty, and Blanco's administration did not want the hungry and thirsty to be sated. They wanted the people to stay miserable so they'd leave. That's their motive, explicitly stated, without apparently even a shred of shame. And it's nauseating.
