WASHINGTON -- Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday recalled 3.8 million pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles for a cruise control switch suspected of causing engine fires. It is the fifth largest auto industry recall in U.S. history.
Ford said the recall of 1994-2002 model-year vehicles includes the company's hot-selling F-150 pickup truck, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and Ford Broncos. The company said it would start sending out recall notices to vehicle owners immediately.

My neighbor has one just like that ~ he keeps it under wraps in the back yard and fires it up once in a while ~ think I'll see if I can trade him out of it. ;)
Wish I could find one. Before the Bronco I had an International Harvestor Scout. That thing would go anywhere and someone else liked it so much, they stole it. I bought the 68 Bronco with part of the Scout insurance money. This was 1973 and I was in the USAF working for minimum wage.
The Scout had a huge straight six that would just about run underwater. 2 door removable top and seating for 6 close friends or 4 normal folks.
You know, you can stop posting those dang photos, Ms. Rose!
I told you to go smile sweetly to your wife and maybe she'll let you have one! : ) In the meantime, I;m gonna drive you nuts with pics of mine! PAYBACK time! ROFL!
BTW, I like your tagline! : )
I'm going to tell my wife that you keep trying to seduce me with your F150, inviting you to join you in the plush leather seats in the back. That will teach you! Yeah!. No, wait a minute, something tells me that it will backfire and I'll get blamed.
Never mind.
ROFL! Nutcase loose!
If you have nutcase loose on that F150, bring it over and I can repair it. May take a few weeks because of parts being delayed because of Katrina but don't worry about it - it will be in good hands.
Email me for directions. Make sure you leave it with a full tank of gas.
Maybe I misspelled your name. I think I was drinking pretty heavily that day. Today, too.
I've scanned the list of comments and noticed not one disparaging word about Toyota, which announced a recall on the very same day. I believe with more vehicles affected. HMMMMMMM!

Without knowing all the facts, I would venture that the magnitude of the problem with the Toyota would pale against the recalls of the Big 3 --- I personally lived through one, the very inadequate brake designs (to save money) of the Chevy Tahoe and related designs. That one cost lives and many accidents.
I will continue to research the issue, but you can take too much cost out of a vehicle and make it very unsafe and unreliable. Also see the Consumers' Reports on thier annual survey of technical RELIABILITY of autos, worldwide, and see who is at the top and who is not -- it will probably surprise you greatly.
Can't put down Toyota. "Oh what a feeling Toyota".
I was born and raised a Ford man and I'll die a Ford man. I ain't got no ambition.
I had a nearly new Toyota Sienna van, very nice, all the extras, was recalled because of faulty seat belts for rear passengers. Decided to trade for a 4x4 F150 king ranch! Very happy! : )
So you don't own a Ford but you do own a flamesuit?
Well, I guess there's something to be said for the belt & suspenders approach.
Yeah ~ Corn Binders (IH) were great old products, they even made great tractors. ;)
I'd like to find an old Scout or Bronco. I bet both mine are still running.
Roger that ~ Bullseye!
Toyota Motor Corp., meanwhile, recalled 978,000 SUVs and pickup trucks over complaints that a rod linking the steering wheel and the wheels could fracture when the steering wheel is turned while the vehicle is stopped.
The affected vehicles include the 1990-1995 4Runner SUV, 1989-1995 truck 4WD and 1993-1998 T-100 pickup.
