Public Skeptical New Orleans Will Recover Criticism, but little outrage, for Bush's and federal agencies' response to hurricane
by David W. Moore

...
Despite widespread criticism of the response by Bush and, separately, the federal government, to the problems caused by the hurricane, the public seems on balance only mildly critical. Forty-two percent say Bush did a "bad" (18%) or "terrible" (24%) job, but 35% rate his response as either "great" (10%) or "good" (25%).
...
When asked to identify who was most responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane, 38% of Americans said no one was really to blame, while 13% cited Bush, 18% the federal agencies, and 25% state and local officials.
...
Few Americans feel that any top official in the agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be dismissed from office -- just 29% say someone should be fired, while 63% disagree.

Great work.
"while 13% cited Bush"
On questions of blame, I'd guess that's about the core number you could expect. I doubt if it even matters what the questions is.
Burgerboy is trying to plant Cindy Sheehan in LA now, but, unfortunately for him, 0 story + 0 story = 0 story.
Great post; the MSM can't seem to understand that Bush is a sincere man and leader. These qualities transcend politics. In that respect he's the anti-Clinton. Like Rush often says, "the MSM marveled at how good a liar Clinton was..."
What heppened in New Orleans is a total mess - IMHO 90% of the blame should be pointed at the city & state level. They control the 1st responders. Even with the several day foresight and pre positioning of supplies. The local government has to handle the situation for at least 3-4 days before the federal government gets in gear.
And most important there has to be a CLEAR chain of command. Somebody has to be out ther to give the masses the confidance that somebody is in charge.
ON 9-11 it was Rudy
Last year with the 4 hurricanes it was Jeb
Here we have the largest natural disater (hard to call it that the levee system is man made) in American History and nobody locally stepped up to the plate.
I love how the Dems (They know the local politicians are gonna be killed when the truth comes out) try to pin everything on Bush.
Although it is enjoyable, I fear that it will cause the MSM rank-and-file to declare open war against middle America, which (it is now clear) rejects the "information" they supply, and their world-view along with it.
The "open warfare" to which I refer will be played out mostly in overseas news outlets. It will not be directly visible here.
Fortunately, FreeRepublic has eyes everywhere.

Since I am not, the only words that remain is Schadenfreude !!!
Another desperate liberal/MSM/Democrat fabricated crisis goes pfffffffffft. They must be in abject fear now, the public is no longer buying their BS.
I don't think this is as much a question of the MSM's ability to sway opinion as it is proof that Bush's political enemies have overplayed their hand. This is a classic case of crying wolf.
I think this crisis and its aftermath, under normal circumstances, present a real vulnerability for the President--not because the complaints about the Federal response are all credible, but because the sad and disturbing images and the confusion make it easy to muddy the picture, and hence to shape the story.
With that in mind, I'm certain that the backlash against Bush and FEMA would have been much greater had the left not chosen to respond to EVERY bit of bad news with a knee-jerk "it's Bush's fault!" reaction.
As supporters of the President, I think this is one of the most effective (and perfectly valid) criticisms we can level at the other side to ensure their credibility remains shattered.
" This is very bad. Not only do people who say he did badly outnumber people who say he did good by 7%.."
Actually those saying indifferent or good was 56% and bad was 42% (with 2% no opinion). Indifferent would have no impact. So negative impact was in the minority. Bush's numbers will only go up from here as more of the facts get out. I hope Hillary hurries up with her Commission.
The American people are sick of Liberal Democrats, Black racists, and an MSM that lies and lies. All these people do is bitch and moan. Never, not once, have they come up with anything contructive. God help this country if these disgusting traitors ever get into pwoer again!!!
The media is stuck again between rocks and hard places. If they try to nail the Prez. too hard without looking locally as well, there will be hell to pay. They'll be forced to recognize the failure of the Louisiana and New Orleans democratic machines.
Brian Williams on NBC last night broached the subject, but couched the flooded buses as 'Opportunities Lost', as if too suggest they were 'unlucky' that the buses couldn't be used.
*snicker*
This has got to be killing Crissy Matthews and Mrs. Alan Greenspan.
I had an hour long argument with my DIL's brother last night. I called him ignorant and I thought he was going to cry. He asked if I thought that was nice. I shot back that ignorance can and should be cured and if he wanted I'd educate him but remaining that way was a choice.
He believes the media except when they report things he doesn't want to believe, such as the rapes and murders of young children.
