Associated Press ^ | September 5, 2005 | Mike Stobbe

Such emotional scenes were repeated perhaps thousands of times along the Gulf Coast last week as pet owners were forced to abandon their animals in the midst of evacuation.

Needed more rottweilers and dobies in the Superdome.

Just went to Noah's Wish site and there is an update on their rescue activities. They are in Slidell.

Lean not on your own understanding. Didn't have to look that one up, its legendary in Victory Outreach.

Nothing desperate about it.
They could have left on Friday and WALKED to safety.

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

I don't buy that it's necessary to leave pets behind for one second. They've got hundreds of boats and thousands of people to evacuate. Let's do the arithmetic; there's room on each boat for a few pets, and we could still get everyone out safely. But a little thinking is difficult for some bureaucrats. It's easier to say no.

The word "dobie" reminds me of the Far Side Cartoon of the person arming himself with a "Dobie-O-Matic". Those dogs definitely would have made things nice and safe in the Superdome!

We have a big old cat named "Oreo". She ignores everyone and is so ungrateful|| She stands by her bowl when she's hungry.

I don't understand this. One lady AND her dog are rescued; next old lady has to stay or leave her dog. What is going on?

Seriesly.

My cat is 23+ YO -- 100% indoors and if you were to know her you would know why the Egyptians worshipped cats. She is the mistress of all she surveys.

She also talks a lot and our friends and maids love her so much because she is so expressive. Hey, it's good to be the Queen!

But the thing that keeps her going is the unconditional love we give her and we get from her. She smacks my head at 3:30 am to take over my pillow and I laugh and give it to her. I pray that she smacks me in the head for many, many years to come.

We have to give her pills twice a day we have it linked to treats so she always asks for her treats (somehow she forgets the pills).

God gave us quite a gift with this one. Last time I checked, the oldest cat on record was 35yo. I am hoping to match that with mine (of course, I will be devastated when she moves on to meet her sister who passed a few years ago and for whom I still grieve).

You undoubtedly missed the discussions of those issues last week.

Tons of people felt they couldn't leave, for various reasons. Many simply didn't believe it would be as bad as the authorities were telling them. Heck, the authorities had been wrong many times before Katrina.

So, for whatever series of reasons and events, a number of people were then facing nothing but bad choices WRT theor pets. At that point, what choice would you have made?

I think there is a definitely possibility.

Texas still has trouble throwing the ball. and I think Ohio State is fast enough on defense to hand with Vince Young.

If Ohio State can get any offense, then yes they can. if they revert to last years form, it will be a lot closer than it should be.

Not in this case,

Picture of Snowball here..he could have fit on his owner's lap

http://www.lavajunkie.com/snowball.html

Story following....

NEW ORLEANS (AP) At the front of the line, the weary refugees waded through ankle-deep water, grabbed a bottle of water from state troopers and happily hopped on buses that would deliver them from the horrendous conditions of the Superdome. At the back end of the line, people jammed against police barricades in the rain. Refugees passed out and had to be lifted hand-over-hand overhead to medics. Pets were not allowed on the bus, and when a police officer confiscated a little boy's dog, the child cried until he vomited. "Snowball, snowball," he cried.

That is fantastic! I, too, have been awakened many a night with a lovely bump or smack in the head from an adoring cat. I lost an 18+ year old magical creature just over a year ago so I well understand what you shared. I hope yours breaks the record for old age in the best health possible.

Ours is 18 and she shows no signs of slowing down.

Keep her/him indoors and at that age give him/her anything and everything he/she wants. At that age, there is no point in trying for "healthy." Being alive is "healthy" so just indulge your baby.

Either you think you're REALLY REALLY valuable which I suspect is your problem, or you have other things of importance in your life like family. Some old people have NOTHING but their animal companion, nothing else to live for. No, you don't SOUND heartless, YOU ARE, if you have no empathy for these old people.
