Bush to Nominate Roberts for Chief Justice

Newsreaders on FoxNews just said a 'Senior administration spokesman' has said Bush plans to nominate Roberts for Chief Justice position.

I agree with what you said. Why run from a fight? The pubbies are awful at managing information and news so I guess that's why they'd rather pussyfoot around. If you look at the confirmation process as an opportunity for battle, you can kill the left with it providing you know how to frame the argument.

It is, after all, about values. While Upchuckie Shumer and Kennedy the Bloviator mouth off about "extreme positions" the Bushies can answer back about whether gay marriage and the rest of the leftist agenda are extreme and, based on polls, not what America wants.

Bush and the administration, especially the Senate, are cowards. The confirmation process allows a savvy leader the chance to beat the left with their own words and actions.

Roberts over Scalia or Thomas? That's what I want...an untested and unknown person leading the court (sarcasm).

Her being from New Orleans should be irrelevant. One of the criteria for picking justices shouldn't be based on whether or not the person is from an area where a natural disaster just occurred. Such thinking ranks feeling and emotion above facts and reason. That's what liberals do.

According to Thomas, this is not true. I mean, he may set the rules, but according to Thomas it was irrelevant: by the time they came to a vote, no one's opinion was going to be changed. He can decide who accepts lower court cases for review, and in that sense can have some clout.

I'm not so sure the other side "hates him so much". I think a lot of that is posturing and positioning that they were doing in advance of the CJ nomination they knew was coming.

By portaying a man like Roberts as being too conservative, they would be making a CJ nomination of a man like Luttig look like the President was being partisan beyond the pall.

There really is little difference between the two. Given the time to fill a seat otherwise, there are definitely enough cases this term important enough not to be down 1 vote and having stevens running things.

Again, according to Justice Thomas when we spoke to him, there is absolutely NO "politicking" inside the court. All justices write their own internal opinions and he said he had never seen a vote change once it was written down and first presented in the opening meeting. Moreover, he said there is no "hallway" talk about cases. It's all done individually, almost like a monk.

Roberts to replace Rehnquist, opening door for a woman nominee to replace O'Connor. He will choose Janice Rodgers Brown and immediately she will be called a variety of racist tags by Al, Jesse, the CBC, and their MSM mouthpieces.

scalia is 70. it's unlikely he'll be cj for 20 yrs, that'd mean he'd stick around till he's 90. considering rehnquist was 80, the more likely scenario has scalia as cj for around 10 yrs. roberts would be for 25-30 yrs. plus, perhaps scalia didn't want to go through a 2nd hearing.

He clerked for Rehnquist. I would bet that President Bush and Justice Rehnquist have had some conversation about this move.



Bingo. Lot of people think events, decisions happen in a vacuum, but they don't. Roberts along was going to be Rehnquist replacement.
