U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.
Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.
To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.
Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:
All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.
WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.
WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.
WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.
WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.
WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.
WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).
WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.
United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.
Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

Tropical Storm 12
That is absolutely wonderful. It actually brings tears to my eyes.
Unfortunately, yes...it does remind me of something.
Why does Mayor Nagin have time to do a 60minutes TV show in the midst of all this.
Mayor Ray has such a guilty conscience as does Gov Blanco and the only thing that will put their mind at ease is if they can successfully transfer blame to the Federal Authorities and Bush and actually beleive it. The media is doing its best to help them in this effort.
Even a few hours can provide memories to last me forever. One woman was quite ill. She had been injured and the staff had given her a muscle relaxer. As it was taking effect, she was trying to eat her evening meal. I sat with her beacause she was very unstable. She had her plate filled with a hamburger, chips, and two pieces of cake. She took one the cakes off her plate and handed it to me on a napkin. She insisted I take it. That was the sweetest cake I have ever eaten.
FEMA was rolling before the storm made landfall. The problem was lack of security for FEMA and its supporting rescue workers. They had to hold back until protected by the military. Does DHS have authority to commandeer the National Guard?
These bodies have been sitting in 90+ degree heat for 6 days. I don't think they are going to attempt to refrigerate them...but I could be wrong.
We'll come get you and the other FReepers, but we're gonna leave the rest of that hellhole to rot.
Those idiots in Sacramento and SF spout words of high ideal, but when it comes down to the hard work of reality, they're nowhere to be found.
I hadn't heard that. I almost don't blame them, though. As uncharitable as it may sound, it is a complete cesspool there, too, and their services are probably already overloaded. The people from NO are just as well. They would have a hard time getting on their feet there- with the cost of housing and everything else. I think it's beneficial for them to be in real communities, especially those with a strong Christian presence. No chance of that in L.A.

Snowball found?
September 4, 2005 : 9:51 PM ET
LA SPCA reports that they may have found Snowball, as they
evacuated animals from the Superdome Sunday. Sept. 5, 10 p.m. EST
The Louisiana SPCA may have rescued "Snowball," the now-famous little dog that a crying boy was forced to
leave behind.
SPCA President Laura Maloney says they rescued a small, white terrier mix whom military officials told them they believed was Snowball, during evacuations Sunday from the Superdome.
"He is very cute, but he's got a little attitude," she reported of the terrier mix.
Of course, Maloney can't be sure of the dog's identity until the owner can be found -- and it is possible that the military officials were wrong.
But the SPCA did rescue between 30 and 40 dogs belonging to somebody from the Superdome Sunday. They plan to return Monday to search for more, as the inside of the Superdome got too dark to further explore.
Sunday night SPCA workers and volunteers were busy bathing the dogs taken from the Superdome.
Among the dogs rescued was a pit bull mix and her 11 newborn puppies. Although the puppies had been seperated from their mother by the military officials who put them inside the Superdome, they had somehow survived.
"Their mother was very happy to see them," Maloney reports.
A campaign had begun on the Internet to find "Snowball," after an AP report describing his painful, forced seperation from his young owner, as the boy boarded a bus to leave the Superdome area.
Stay tuned here, for more information on the Search for Snowball.
If this isn't a take off on the Court TV jury clock, nothing is...why didn't they have a clock ticking before the storm hit?
Brian Williams got the heck out of there once the rain started coming in, and I think word probably got round pretty quick after that that the gangstas were going to be real tolerant of any cameras rolling while they practised their precious little acts of "frustration"!
At least at the Convention Center, after one guy raped a 7 year old girl, the "residents" gathered round and administered justice on the spot. His will be one death not much mourned!
Not at all. It is. In the form of money and material, buut not in the form of directing evacuation, recovery and relief. The governor is holding onto the responsibility to direct evacuation, recovery and relief.
Well ain't that interesting
The media/press is declaring war on the president?
:-( ` ` `
Here's a link to the official request dated Aug. 28th from Gov. Blanco to President Bush for Federal help (pdf file):
http://gov.louisiana.gov/Disaster%20Relief%20Request.pdf
I don't know about the other request on Aug. 27th -- that's why I was asking the freeper about it.
I'm just trying to get it clear in my own mind what happened as to requests for help, etc.
"5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating. "
What husbands? I think I can count on the fingers of both hands the numbers of families I've seen ... mostly single moms and kids.
No doubt true for some, and likely not true for all. Some people came to the Dome, and were told by its gatekeepers that the Dome was full, and to "go over there."
