PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush attended church this morning before visiting the Red Cross Headquarters in Washington. The President also made a statement about the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Mr. Chief Justice Rehnquist spent more than 50 years of service to the nation, 33 of which were at the Supreme Court. During his tenure, William Rehnquist was among the most influential Chief Justices in history. His death creates a rare double opening on the U.S. Supreme Court, giving President Bush the chance to make a significant mark on the federal judiciary.
The President will tour the Gulf Coast disaster area again tomorrow to personally assess progress.

Maybe this will help.
ABC/Washington Post Poll: Bush Not Taking Brunt of Katrina Criticism
Article says three-fourths of the American people say the local and state authorities were insufficiently prepared, while two-thirds say the federal government could have been better prepared. Despite our lack of civics training (which government agencies are responsible for what), the truth is sinking in.

Indeed I have just watched a bit of British news and I a seething at no time do they attempt to explain what a President can do and cannot do. The average Brit will think that he has the same powers as our PM does and therefore will see blame should be laid at his door rather than the the inept and probably corrupt local government.

Good afternoon! It makes me really mad to see the lunatics from the left claim the president did not do anything

President George W. Bush is sworn in as the 43rd President of the U.S. by Mr. Chief Justice Rehnquist in this January 20, 2001What a great day that was, and then we got to do it all over again. God rest the soul of Justice Rehnquist.

"God Bless President Bush"God must be blessing him, because I don't know how GWB does it. The enormous challenges thrown at this President in just five years are mind-boggling.

Hi, MEG. If ever a president needed our prayers and steadfast support, this one does.

Bless you Wolfie for these pics.
In the 5 years Mrs. Bush has been our First Lady I have not seen her once look drained or exhausted until these photos. I want to weep.
God Bless you dear, dear Laura.

You're absolutely right. The MSM's take on all this has nothing to do with reality. They've shown themselves to be worse than useless. Hysterics (chasing ratings), attempting to hang Katrina around Bush and the republicans' necks. This won't work. What else have the dems got in their bag of tricks? Cindy Sheehan? She's old news. (Nobody cares, besides, she comes across as a lunatic.) So they'll ride Katrina for as long as possible. But the public's attention span is short, and most of us are already Katrina burnouts. We want to see progress and progress is already underway...not good news for the MSM. So they'll latch onto Bush's possible Supreme Court nominee, etc. and trash reputations willy nilly. The MSM is despicable.

I also have been sickened by the MSM. They have sunk even lower and I didn't think that was possible.
We need to offer up our prayers for all the people who are the victims of this storm and double our prayers for the President. He is being bombarded with hatred from all sides and right now our prayers are needed to shield him. I know the people on this thread are doing that and I hope all of us will remind everyone we know to do the same.

I posted that picture I think Friday and at the time I was struck on how tired and strained she looked I suspect she had been up all night.
As a personal friend of the President and first lady as well as part of the Government I am certain she feels this doubly.

They are hysterical... and amazingly stupid about all of this.
The broadcast networks, with few exceptions, contribute nothing to real dialogue. The inflame, over-inflate, posture and preen. They're useless.
To: MEG33
We all need to be praying non-stop for that man. In addition to all the burdens he already carries, he has so many vicious people attacking him night and day.
He can not do it without the help of God, it's just too much for any one man to bear.

You're right. I think it's probably the same with media coverage around the world.
Our American system is so different from most countries that without adequate explanation by the media, few people could grasp the concept of state sovereignty, and the central role state governors and local officials have in disaster management.
