"I absolutely LOVE General Honore! Let's get that man out in front of the press more often!"

Isn't he great! Think he and Tommy Franks went to the same seminar on how to handle the press LOL!

Russert distorted Chertoff's words when Chertoff said that they were surprised that the hurricane came back around the second pass when it breached the dike . Russert put the words in his mouth that the President was surprised that the dikes were breached with no other comment about the path of the hurricane. My respect for Russert went to zero today.

Here's an interesting article from Sept. 15th, 2004 when Hurrican Ivan approached the Gulf Coast:

New Orleans urges people to move to higher floors, or take shelter at the Superdome

http://web.abqtrib.com/archives/news04/091504_news_ivan1.shtml

"I think it's safe to say we will have flooding in this city," said Mayor Ray Nagin. However, he contradicted a statement from his emergency preparedness director that the city needed at least 10,000 body bags to handle possible drowning victims.

Vewy Vewy interesting...

Excellent link and link to a link. No one mentions corruption but you gotta figure that everyone knows what the story is in NO. I don't recall anywhere else where a police dept. just disintegrated and firemen stopped going to fires, it just doesn't happen.

Rummy said that the DOD/Pentagon isn't involved with policing a cities & states ..

That's the Posse Commitatus Act. Active duty military are forbidden form exercising police power against US citizens on US soil.

But, active duty military can do anything else, e.g., search and rescue (and of course, self defense). And, Nat'l Guard can perform the police function if the state or local authorities are outgunned by the thugs.

Feds should be able to take over direct control.

The Boston school system was placed under Federal receivership for the busing fiasco (not because of it -- so they could push it through). I think I've heard of cities or towns being placed under receivership too, but I don't recall clearly. A federal judge (the late and sadly unlamented Arthur Garrity) ordered the Boston schools receivership.)

Timmy was saying the same thing to Chertoff - why didn't you bring in planes, trains, and busses.

Don't forget, he also said CRUISE SHIPS

Senator Frist on tape will be contrasted with the God awful, loonie Gov Blanco and the Mayor, etc. Look at the calm, adult, sensible leaders that are the GOP, and then look at the crybabies, hysterical females, and males in leadership in the Democrap Party. They did not have a good plan, what plan they had they did not implement because the crony-ism and corruption is so instilled in that State that they have useless state and local employees, nobody is courageous or Public minded or wants to pull the trigger to get things done. You have to have a plan to get those people with no transportation the hell out, and you start with evacuation of the Nursing homes and Hospitals. The Leadership in La should be put on trial. There have to be changes made so that a state that effects so many other states in commerce and oil delivery, delivery of goods, transportation etc has to be up to snuff on every level. This should be something that HS needs to deal with immediately, it is too important to wait for another Hurricane to hit.

I don't recall anywhere else where a police dept. just disintegrated and firemen stopped going to fires, it just doesn't happen.

To be fair, I think this is quite different. Many of the NOLA PD likely lost their families, etc. in the aftermath. There was bound to be attrition. Those left were stuck w/o communication, thereby losing command and control. The thugs took advantage.

Now in a loss of cilil order, the PD is outgunned - in that position, better to not engage the enemy. THug activity would prevent the FD from working, and without efective security, they are smart to not go out and killed by thugs.

Meanwhile, the mayor and governor pretend it isn't going on (or the loss in civil order isn't all that bad), and delay asking for reinforcements. Their orders shifted from "don't worry about the looting, focus on resuce" to "skip the rescue, stop the thugs." How's that for command and control?

Sounds like Broussard was a very loose canon before today's MTP interview.

You must have been watching a different Shepherd Smith than I. It looked like he was going out of his way to point out that the feds had dropped the ball and people were suffering due to GW adm instead of incompetent state officials. That was my take, of course opinions differ.

It was reported in the WP that Blanco refused to sign a memorandum so the Feds/Military could take control of the Citie/State

I wonder if the media/press will ask these questions to Blanco???

Some how I doubt they will

Did ya just here the question asked to Rummy about the policing in NO??

Some arrogant press weenie was trying to get Rummy to comment on the quote from the Army Times (not connected to the U.S. military) that the "Army was moving in to retake the city".

Rummy should have hit him in the mouth.

What you say is very important. We never fired the first shot across anyone's sinking bow, they did. Your quote:

"since the dems decided to politicize this we have no choice but to fight back."

is a very important quote since we are talking about a national tragedy of immense proportions here and to politicize something like this is lower than low. And that is exactly what we are up against the lower than low.
