For Hillary's sake under no circumstances can a female be blamed for failed leadership during a crisis. The media attack is as much about deflecting criticism from the female component of this as it is about blaming Bush.

In my # 363, don't think I made an idle observation about Donna Brazile's connection to this Jefferson Parish president unloading on Bush and FEMA.

The media is a branch of the Democrat party. That explains most of the behavior, dialogue and presentation. They do have some talent, but its heart is very dark.

Russert is a disgraceful biased antanonist who has no business hosting a program like Meet the Press.

At least change the name to "Meet NBC News"

On NBC, Tidwell (whose selling a book) continues to blame the Bush administration for cities sinking due to natural processes. He managed to get in global warming -- everyone, take another drink.

Jefferson Parish approves hiring of engineering firm for other contra flow plan

Brooke Erickson

August 10, 2005, 7:12 PM CDT

JEFFERSON PARISH -- Jefferson Parish now has a new hurricane evacuation plan it's actually the same plan the parish used during hurricane Dennis.

You may recall Parish President Aaron Broussard called for an early, voluntary evacuation.

He says the parish used a "zone plan" to get people out.

Today the parish council voted to spend up to $300,000 to hire an engineering firm to perfect the plan.

The Department of Transportation says anytime you can get people out quicker, it's a good idea.

Broussard's plan is also similar to the one used in St. Tammany Parish. Aaron Broussard/Jefferson Parish President: "You take the balance of the parish and separate it into four quadrants. Those four quadrants would be disbursed in four or more different directions that overlay on the contraflow."

Aaron Broussard also says this plan isn't just for hurricane's, but also in case there's a terrorism attack, or an industrial explosion.

That thanking of the levee board tells me that they KNOW that the feds are going to find out about massive corruption.

If you ask me, the FBI should be searching abandoned city offices for EVIDENCE, ASAP.

I wish I'd gotten the full name of the black congressman from one of the Parrishes close to New Orleans. His last name was Jefferson, and despite leading questions from Bob Scheiffer on his CBS Sunday Show, Jefferson refused to accuse the President or FEMA of racism. He refused!

He explained the poor always suffer the most, he explained how it was the end of the month, these folks had to make choices, stay or go, and some of them thought they had to stay because they couldn't afford hotels or transporation. A rational, calm, and hopeful man. I think I'm stunned.

The former mayor (who's black) just listed his choices for "Rebuilding Czar". Fifty guesses as to the race of each of his choices...

Actally it seems to me Chertoff is just trying to do everything he can to NOT politisize the situation, yet he gets hammered with political questions critisizing him and Bush (to the point of russert asking if he'll resign)

Of course, you are right though... Repubs always 'take the high ground', and do the right thing, while dems sling mud and exploit anything (esp death) to their political advantage.

Shouldn't be surpirsed at that... its been their MO for over 40 years.

Absolutely true. If the Republicans won't fight the lies and distortions, then the dems will win in '06 and the dems will consider it a victory, even if their own mismanagement and corruption killed many of those in Louisiana. Bush and the Administration and their "new tone" may make them feel good, but they will be political history unless they learn to fight effectively.

08.14.05

Aaron Broussard taps into government funds to implement a new evacuation plan for Jefferson Parish. It's a plan, Broussard says, will compliment the state's "master" evacuation plan for all of Southeast Louisiana. But critics argue its a step in the wrong direction.

Funny you should say that--I watch HGTV almost exclusively in the evenings--but the thought of so many poeple losing their homes made it hard to get excited about home improvement.

Wouldn't it be cool if someone--or some group--brought a huge parcel of land in Texas and did a huge Extreme Makeover project?

The homes could be built be a lot of the displaced persons, along with volunteer help (Habitat for Humanity, eg) with lenders providing low-interest loans for people so they could buy their own homes. Most people in New Orleans DID own homes (tho some lived in "the projects"), but think of what a blessing it would be for them to get a decent place to live back.

And the HGTV channel could have a YEAR'S worth of material for the "Design on a Dime", "Decorating Sense", etc! Heck, even TLC could get in on the act and send the "In a Fix" crew in--for years!

Just wait until it gets out that the Navy has hired Haliburton to repair the bases that were damaged in the storm.
