John Breaux, D-La.; American Red Cross President Marty Evans; former Surgeon General David Satcher; the Rev. Al Sharpton.
It was also a crazy question how can they estimate the death toll until the city is drained and houses searched this could take a few weeks.
What does the hurricane have to do with the hearings? Is Spector, Kennedy or any other Senator down on the Gulf helping? No! The Congresscritter that I have seen down in the ditches is Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee. She has her whole family down there.
"That is exactly the way it is pronounced in the South. Sorry".
OK - I apologize.

Has ANYONE brought up the Buses issue?
Tim Russert is having a meltdown moment himself. My God, he's attacking Chernoff, but thank goodness, Chernoff is calmly telling Russert that Russert has misquoted both him and the president. AND Chernoff is telling Russert in no uncertain terms how Mike Brown head of FEMA was on television Saturday before the hurricane hit on Monday, telling people to get out.
Now Russert is blaming Chernoff because the well-off in their SUVs got out but the poor didn't. (thats a double whammy attack...got in a swipe at SUVs too)
chernoff is setting Tim straight. TIM, THE LOCAL CITY AND STATE GOVERNMENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EVACUATING THEIR CITIZENS!!!
Bravo Chernoff!!! Job well done on shuttting down Tim's obviously biased, emotional accusations. Way to go Chernoff!!
Tim Russert has completely blown his cover this morning. Emotional, accusatory, AND using incorrect quotes to do so. Tsk tsk Tim!
Mary won't have a problem , they are too busy trying to get to Nagin! /sarc
Bill Frist was there yesterday
"BUT... no mention of the 250 school busses left to flood because they were never activated by the "why aren't you doing my job" mayor."
Timmy was saying the same thing to Chertoff - why didn't you bring in planes, trains, and busses. Chertoff essentially told him that it's a local responsibility.
How can FEMA and the Pres know the capabilities of every city and town in this country?? It's not up to them - the locals are supposed to have a plan (maybe the mayor of NO and the Gov of LA had the same person that put all of Kerry's 'plans' together).
The Mayor of NO and Gov should have known that there were many poor people in the NO area that rely on public transportation. Why the he!! didn't they send busses around to provide evacation for them???
He was also the one that told them to go to the SD - why weren't necessities provided as part of the 'plan'
What did they replace it with? I thought a big problem was that communication among police and firemen and others was impossible because of non-functioning or incompatible equipment.
Senator Frist went to the Gulf as a doctor, not a Senator.
And Curt Weldon went also.
thank you for your # 13, reminding us how the Governor of Louisiana is STILL refusing to cooperate with FEMA.

Aaron Broussard Jumps The Gun
During Hurricane Dennis many in the newsroom were making fun of Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard because he called a voluntary evacuation before the storm even entered the gulf, and while the state senate election was still scheduled to go on. Luckily, it didn't seem to matter because so few people left, but still... What a sloppy move!
Worse yet, he ignored the evacuation plan that all the parishes had agreed on. The newsroom got a call from the LA State Police after JP's press conference stating that only they (the LSP) had the authority to manage an evacuation. Governor Blanco released a similar statement to us also.
Honestly, I think it is always wise to evacuate the unprotected low-lying areas, but for those of us behind the protection levees it is unnecessary. Broussard jumped the gun, and what's worse is that in the future people will take his evacuation orders less seriously. Tsk tsk.
On toppa that - the local stations didn't challenge Broussard very harshly on his actions because if you piss off a political leader then they won't give you interviews in the future. And in the news business you just can't afford to be left outta the loop on stories, hence soft questions galore. And that is just a fraction of how bad this system gets, my friends.

Isn't Frist there, doctoring? (Your point, of course, remains.)
I've been thinking the same thing. They are certainly not cut from the cloth of a Margaret Thatcher. Nightmare = Hillary as CIC of the Armed Forces. (oops...forgot that she once tried to enlist in the Marines...according to her. And using troops to serve guests in the Wh...NOT exactly the kind of chief the troops would revere.)
CNN has reported 200 NOLA police officers have walked off the job... 2 committed suicide.
Nope... Stephie came close.. asking why Bush didn't send busses down to get the poor people that didn't have means out.
Of course Harold Rains gave the answer, and it was something like because he is a racist and incompitent, but NOBODY mentioned local gov't at all today so far that I've seen (most of FNS, Stephi and Chris)
As I have said for 5 years, why do Republicans/Conservatives insist on being "interviewed" by DNC hacks?
It just compounds the pretense that these are "journalists".
Will our reps ever learn?
