Qatar gives 100 million dollars for US hurricane relief 1 hour, 26 minutes ago

DOHA (AFP) - The Gulf emirate of Qatar announced it will donate 100 million dollars to relief efforts for the US victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The aid was granted by Qatar's emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani "in the name of the government and the Qatari people," the official news agency QNA said.

Quoting a foreign ministry spokesman, QNA said: "Qatar expresses its sympathy and its solidarity to the US people and government in these painful circumstances and sends its condolences to the families of the victims in this humanitarian catastrophe."

Three other Arab countries -- Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates -- have also offered aid to the United States.

But China gave $100K. You can't beat that... unless you are my city, Winston-Salem, which gave about $600K raised yesterday.

They "gained" that money thanks to the high price of petrol. So, no thanks!

I'm not interested in taking $$ from a country that plays home base to Al Jazeera. I hope Bush tells them to stuff it.

One of the things that makes America great is that we take care of our own, even when the people getting care are a bunch of savage and undeserving thugs.

Even if they are filthy rich oil people that is one heck of a contribution.

They also are sitting on enormous natural gas deposits.

OK what does everyone know that I don't know.

I heard there are 'reservations' the Red cross but I don't know the sordid details, and when I ask, people seem afraid to speak out.

At any rate, today's newspaper here said of $ 200 mill pledged to date in relief donations, $ 196 mill were to the Red cross. What are we missing here, before I send in my own donation?

Let's find out what the 'strings' attached are, for this and for funds from Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Jordan -- the gesture is appreciated, but what if the funds have to be disbursed by Islamo-fascist 'charities' that will merely be doing propaganda work??? I hope that I'm wrong, but think about it folks.... just how would these countries seek to disburse such aid in the USA? I doubt they're just going to write a check to the US government -- they're going to fund organizations that they approve of....

I can't believe that...$1k? From NFL Players? How do they sleep at night? Minimum should be $5k...the league minimum more than allows a donation bigger than $1k...what is the cheapest salary in the NFL?

Besides it is a tax write-off.

There is a fund-raiser going on for the NASCAR races this weekend...I am curious to see how much cash will be raised in the stands and match that up against NFL Players.

" Right. Just like how Bush has stopped our own MSM from doing the same? LOL"

Al Jazeera is government owned unlike the MSM (except NPR and CPB).

Yeah, Kuwait ought to be pledging at least $1 billion since they owe their very existence to us (as can be said for many, many other countries) but I'm not holding my breath.... anyway, as I said in another post, we have to watch whether these pledges from countries involved with Islamo-fascism may just turn out to fund propaganda work.... give our refugees a meal and a Koran....

Back when I used to watch O'Blowhard, he was all over the United Way and Red Cross regarding their release of all the 9-11 donations to the people affected, which is what the donations were for in the first place. I don't remember all the details, but the impression those organizations gave was that they were banking the lion's share of the money that donors had intended to be given as soon as possible to New Yorkers.

A lot of the funds raised by the Red Cross after 9-11 went to funding their programs instead of going directly to the families and relief.

The same thing with The United Way...it went to funding social programming.

You have to earmark your money and say where you want it to go.

Operation Blessing,Salvation Army, and Catholic Charities will make sure your money goes to the right place.

I remember hearing something at about 3:30 in the morning the other night that Kuwait was going to form a group and raise a collective fund to send as nations together. Not sure if that story is going to come to fruit.

I am sure we can trust our leaders. They would not agree to something if strings where attached...ever.
