Qatar gives 100 million dollars for US hurricane relief 1 hour, 26 minutes ago

DOHA (AFP) - The Gulf emirate of Qatar announced it will donate 100 million dollars to relief efforts for the US victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The aid was granted by Qatar's emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani "in the name of the government and the Qatari people," the official news agency QNA said.

Quoting a foreign ministry spokesman, QNA said: "Qatar expresses its sympathy and its solidarity to the US people and government in these painful circumstances and sends its condolences to the families of the victims in this humanitarian catastrophe."

Three other Arab countries -- Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates -- have also offered aid to the United States.

Saudi Arabia should give $1 billion.

They made more than that in profits from oil price increases.

Like it's written: Quatar.

"It wasn't done out of kindness. If Qatar really wanted to be 'kind' they'd stop the pro-alQaeda/pro-terrorist crap on alJazeera that's getting our guys and Iraqis killed."

Gee, kinda sounds a little like censorship.

Let's not be too quick to kick the gift horse in the mouth.

"How does one say Qatar in English? I've heard CUtter, Gutter, and KaTAR. Must be one of those Peking/Beijing things."

The Mr, after returning from same last July confirmed for me that it is indeed CUtter.

You are the one who is wrong. It's a fact that AlJazeera doesn't sneeze without permission from the gov't.

In fact, there was a middle eastern analyst on tv last week talking about this very subject. He said the people in the U.S. have no idea what they're talking about, when they try to compare the media here, to the media in arab countries. And he too said, there are NO independently owned TV stations in the arab world. Every anti-American terrorist who is allowed to spout his venom and call for the killing of Americans, does so with the permission of the gov't.

$100 million is a lot of money.

Yes it is. However, compared to 100 BILLION + dollars that is needed, is a nice drop in the bucket. Wonder how much the Iraqi government is willing to give up.

Right, and the NFL players are trying to get together for 1K each. They should be giving 50K each.

Say Prince, could we make that a trade in oil using Jan 2005 prices? (Just kidding,...God-Bless you Qatar)

Considering the LA Gov's initial request for emergency funds from FEMA was only $9mil, that's a tremendous act of grace.

Exactly.

I doubt the former residents of NO care about Qatar's intentions.

If every Arab country donated this amount we could focus on important issues like getting these people jobs and homes and prevent the outbreak of crime, divorce, suicide, murder, and everything else that is bound to follow a disaster like this.

The victims need hope right now...$100 million is a good start from them. I agree with one of the posters on this thread...no money to the Red Cross for them to loot it. Send it to a responsible organization.
